How to make time for exercise?

So I just started working 2 jobs which require me to be pretty much motionless all day, and since I now only have 1 day off a week and work varying hours it's been cutting a lot into my workout time. It's also kind of causing my eating habits to get a bit out of whack because I don't always have time to eat anything during working hours. Sometimes I'll bring like a nutrition bar or something but that's about it.
I know I'm not the only one with this issue, so I was wondering what you all do in terms of exercise during busy work weeks. I have a treadmill at home so I've been thinking of using that every day but unfortunately I don't always have time, especially when I get back at 10 PM. :/
Does anyone have any suggestions? How do you all make time to fit exercise/healthy eating into your daily lives? :)

    You use available time that you have. I used to work a 12 hour a day job and the only time I had was from 12 midnight to 1am then had to be up by 8:30am to be at work by 10am. There's no "set" time to work.

    How many hours a day are you working? How do you get to work? do you have breaks? and can you workout subtly while you work?

    I think you need to do a lot of pre-planning. spend some time once a week, see what your schedule is going to be. Plan your food and your exercise time. Sometimes make your food ahead of time to bring. Remember you will have life interfere sometimes, but try to stick to your plan. Adjust it where necessary. I exercise early in the morning, so I don't have to worry about getting that done in the rest of the day. Good Luck to you. :smile:

    I am a single mom of 2 babies, so I always do my workout after my babies go down for the night (around 8 usually). It is my "me" time without them. You can get workout dvd (like 30-day shred or Ripped in 30) that are only 20 mins. Any exercise is better than nothing. I do those workout dvds during the winter, but since it has been nice, I am running/walking at night. Somtimes, you just have to make time.

    You have to plan,plan,and plan. Best advice that was told to me when I first started back exercising is to take the time to plan your exercise "block time" ahead a month and STICK WITH IT no matter what. You owe it to yourself to invest time and energy into yourself..no one else is going to do it for you . :smile:

    This is going to sound strange. Having said this I find this really works. I have a large exercise ball at my desk which I use through out the day. I just sit on it and it gives me some excersie as I balance on it. I can also streach out a bit too. Is there any chance you can increase your walking? Walking on breaks, parking at the back of the lot (when safe) etc?
  • if you have the ability to walk to or ride to one of your jobs that would be great. walk around the buildings on breaks. take the stairs. wake up a little earlier or go to bed later. if you sit at a desk all day your job should encourage good work ergonomics (streching every 15min) or so. When i took my typing class i did an exercise where i could see how far i could suck my bellybutton in and hold it. There is pretty much no way to get "cardio" in a startionary position but you can try to tighten whatever you can. In my birthing classes we did relaxation techniques where you start from your feet and try to tighten and release one muscle at a time until you get all the way up. (it was more like a workout than a relaxation session to me) other than that you just have to make the time for what is important to you

    as far as eating pre pack and plan everyday! i have to or it would never work
    I work from 8am until 5pm (with 40 minute drive each way) then I run my online jewelry
    business from 6.30 to 1-2 in the morning most days
    I get up at 5.30 to work out for 30-45 minutes i do at least 30 minutes as soon as i get home
    and I always use my breaks and lunch time for exercise
    15 minute can easily burn 100 calories from jumping jacks, jump rope ect! I even do some while
    in the restroom break room even supply closet lmao !!!

    you have to make it a priory NO EXCUSES :drinker:
