Whey protein? Good, bad, ugly?? Thoughts??

I was considering having a whey protein shake as a meal or snack replacement. What are some of your thoughts? Would this be beneficial to weight loss, or would I be losing nutrition?

I believe it is the body fortress vanilla whey protein shake mix. A friend gave it to me.

I drink the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control shakes for lunch and I make my own at home when I have one there using the Body Fortress and Silk Almond Milk Unsweetened.

I use whey protein within 30 mins of working out. Occasionally I will have it as part of my lunch at work, but not very often.

Muscle Milk is my favorite (and if anyone is planning to send me messages bashing MM or warning me about it - don't bother.. you do your thing and I'll do mine, mmkay?). I'm picky about taste and I'm picky about it dissolving all the way in a shaker cup. I like that I can drink MM with milk OR water and that it completely dissolves in my shaker cup. :) I also don't mind Gaspari and Dymatize brands (but MM is my fave and it is, in my opinion, affordable)

I use it as a meal replacement with a little snack sometimes, or as a post workout snack.. or just because. I make mine as a smoothie with 1/4 cup of raspberries, 3/4 cup 1% or skim milk, and a scoop of vanilla protein powder, I use Jillian's from Walmart, but everyone has a different preference.I like it and since i do why spend more?

I have a fruit smoothie made with whey protein isolate for breakfast a few times a week.

I scoop whey protein isolate unflavoured
1 cup fresh or frozen berries
    1 banana
1 cup of water or ice cubes
    1 tbspn ground flax seed
    1 tbspn of chia seeds
    1 tspn ground cinnamon

301 calories, 35 grams of protein.

    It's quite filling and satisfying.

I like using the whey protein for my breakfast in the mornings. I use skim milk but I think I might try it with that vanilla almond milk. Let me know how you end up liking it. Also I can only use one scoop not two without having to choke it down. Good luck and congrats on your 10# loss!!

I just bought the exact same whey protein this past weekend. I'm using it as my breakfast/meal replacement. I've never been a breakfast person so I figured this will wake my body up in the morning to get it working and then I've been eating a decent lunch and dinner w the rest of my calories. We'll see wat happens! I also started takin 4000mg of CLA and an Omega3-6-9 vitamin as well as a b-12 pill.

I like whey. I use it especially on days I strength train. I also use it for b'fast sometimes in the morning,

    Here's the recipe:
    1cup 1% milk or skim
    1/2cup frozen raspberries
    1/2cup frozen strawberries
2 teaspoons all natural peanut butter
    1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
    1 scoop whey protein
    1 teaspoon psyllium husk

I know it sounds weird but its really good.

I have whey protein about 4-6 times a week. I use a natural 100% whey powder (unflavoured). I'm lactose intolerant and found that some brands cause problems for me -- I tend to do better with an isolate than a concentrate.

Usually, this is how I have it:

    -straight with water
    -mixed with a mashed banana
-mixed with 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tbsp cocoa powder and ice for a chocolate peanut butter smoothie <--love this after a long run
  • I have shakes in the morning too!

I use unsweetened almond milk, body fortress protein powder, flax seed, spinach, and then any fruit.
So somedays I add banana and peantut butter to the above.
Other days I add frozen peaches or strawberries or raspberries. I also found with the bananas, you can cut up, put in Ziploc and freeze.
I promise you, I never taste the spinach, a great way to get greens in, the flax seed is good fiber. But you can never get bored with it, so many options. Sometimes after working out I have them too! Great protein source!

I like Dymatize ISO 100. It's a great base for protein shake recipes because it only has 106 calories and zero carbs, zero fat, and zero sugar. I'm going to attempt a low-carb mocha frapuccino inspired version tonight.

I use the body fortress stuff too....some flavors I add to coffee (not a breakfast eater in general) and some I drink for breakfast with some lowfat milk and flax seed added in. My latest fave is the chocolate peanut butter flavor.
