Question about Elliptical?

I was wondering when working out is it best to do the random where the resistance levels change intermitently or the manual?
I have been doing the random at level 2-3 for 30 I burn around 300 calories and my HR stays elevated.
I was just wondering what is best or if it even matters. I only see other people at the gym doing the manual (flat) setting..
Thanks,
Kate

When I use the elliptical I don't do manual I just choose one of the settings and its never the same workout settings the next day - I like the cross training settings (I think the one I use has like 5-6 different cross training options) they are good workouts because of the incline/ cross ramps and the resistance changes as well--I like interval training less boring
When you monitor your heart rate are you going off what the machine says or off what your Heart Rate Monitor says? The machines aren't accurate and websites that try to tell you how many calories you burned arent accurate either they are all just estimates.
The best thing I learned about on this Website was a heart rate monitor that tracks your heart rate (so you are getting the most out of your workouts by staying in your target heart rate zone) and it tells you how many calories YOU burn during your sessions--0 -
I always do the random, or the aerobic, or the "fat burn" or the interval. That way I'm always changing things up and I don't have to monkey with the buttons. I don't really see the point of staying flat unless you have knee problems or some other injury.0

I personally favor the "random" setting. It's random. It starts out with lower intensity levels and then gets up to higher intensity with some intervals of hardly any intensity. It wears me out, and my heart rate yo-yo's like regular interval training. I'm always so relieved when I reach the "cool-down" at the end.0
