Are chia seeds worth the extra calories when trying to lose?

I just bought black chia seeds to put in my smoothies. They seems great nutrition wise but I’m only on a 1200 calorie diet (4ft 11in) and wondering if they are worth the extra 120 calories? They seem like they would help me reach my fiber goal.

Thoughts please?

Try them out. If you enjoy them and you think they are worth it calorie wise for their nutrition, go for it.

I like them for fiber and omega 3 - also like making chia pudding for a sweet treat. If you like em - they are worth it! If you don’t- other items are more diet bang for buck.

You don’t need to eat a lot or every day. I add it to my overnight oats and like mg07030 I also enjoy chia pudding. Both of these things are not in my daily food plans. They have their benefits, which someone else has mentioned.

    Moderation, right?

Yes, I’m moderartion. Chia seeds goes right through you so the amount absorbed is very little, while you do get extra B vitamins and omega oils. The answer is yes, worth the calories.

There is no way I could eat them if they weren't pre-soaked

Depends on what you mean by "worth the calories." If you like a food, it helps you hit your nutrient goals, and/or your doctor has advised you to eat it, then you might decide it's worth the calories.

Just because an item's "serving size" is listed as a particular amount does not mean you have to eat that amount. If you want chia seeds but don't want to eat 120 calories worth of them, you can simply weigh out a smaller amount.

Maybe I’m using way too many! A 1/4 cup serving of mine is 180 calories

Use a food scale for solid foods instead of measuring cups.

I do! This was just what the back of my package said. I used 120 calories worth, will prob go down to 60 calories / day for the future.
