Help Me! I'm a Beer Monster!!!

Hey I'm new here and want to lose my fat gut. It's gross. I think I'm starting to develop man-boobs too.
My main vice is beer. It's definitely where most of my weight has come from (well, the beer AND the takeaways that result from being drunk).
Any suggestions of good substitutes?
Cheers! (pun fully intended)

BEEEERRRRR MONSSSTERRRR!!! RAAAHHHH!0

The only thing about having vodka and other spirits is that the glasses are always so tiny so it's gone before you know it.0

I recommend a much more wholesome way of life. Cut out the beer completely, but if that's too much too soon just cut it right down. Focus your attention on other aspects when you're out socially other than drinking. It's sometimes more fun to sit back and watch others get off their faces than them watching you0

There is no such thing as a good alternative. Except cutting down on the beer.0

I don't get beer urges, but I have found that guzzling a 20oz bottle of Diet Coke quenches most cravings.0

No it's not Pete. That's just a damn lie!0 -
Nope, just cut down on the booze and/or find a lower calorie drink you like......
I only drink once a week now. It's a chore, but someone's got to do it!0 -

http://www.11points.com/food-drink/11_best_beers_to_get_you_drunk_but_not_make_you_fat. If the article doesn't help you, the picture of the dude with the beer on his gut should be a good deterrent!!! Good luck!!0

and if you drink light or low cal beer - it'll take a whole twelve pack to even start a buzz... I make sure to drink with people who won't gorge eat afterwards - then I only get the calories from the beer not the **** food after0

A substitue for beer? You mean what can you drink and not get fat? I myself am an avid beer drinker. I am also fat. Dude, there is no way around it. I quit drinking beer and I immediately lost 8 pounds. On a rare occasion I will have some wine or vodka with low fat tonic water. But beer is just a bunch (I mean a bunch) of empty calories. It's tragic, I am sorry for your loss. Your going to have to get on the wagon if your serious about weight loss and drink occasionally, smartly.
(When I do have beer it's Guiness since that is good for you I hear)0 -

There are two problems with that:
Firstly, I will remain sober. This is not a lot of fun in a pub or club.
Secondly, all that caffeine will give me palps.0 -

Moderation is going to be your key. I too love beer but if I know I'm going to have a couple then I account for it in my calorie intake and I'm trying to do just a little extra exercise that day. Just my thought.0

A lot of my weight came from the fact I drank to much beer.
I cut WAY back on my drinking and I am much happier for it.
I have found that fun outdoor activities are a much more fulfilling. Hiking, biking, snowboarding, and such are what I do for entertainment, social activities, stress relief....
I also like Hot tea to relax with.
When I do drink now I just have a couple good beers and quit. (none of the mgd 64 BS)0 -

freaking LOVE that you said makes me sad face. haha0 -

BAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It IS a damned LIE! I too am a beer fiend. I LOVE LOVE LOVE beer. I used to drink it every day...the good stuff. So I switched to Corona Light or Michelob Ultra. It was alright. And not as many calories. I give myself one beer day - where I drink any and as much beer as I want. The rest of the week, I try to be good. That's not usually possible. So I'll drink the Corona's on the weekend...and just skip meals. I know, not the best, but whatev. I love beer.0 -
I love beer... Insanely so. However, for several reasons, I've recently switched to only drinking Miller 64. Yes... it sucks and is hardly really "beer" but hear me out here...
1. You can still be social, drink, and have fewer calories in each 64.
2. There is such little actual alcohol in 64 that you won't make horrific take-out choices cause you're much less likely to get drunk in the first place.
3. You'll feel better in the morning. Perhaps even hydrated since the *kitten* is nearly water.
You asked for an alternative... that's all I got. Or, start drinking water and eliminate the problem all together0 -

Yeah, I rule pretty hard when it comes to talking gibberish.0 -

Actually, that's a good point. I no longer grab a takeaway! I prepare something to eat at home before going out. Roast chicken or something, with far less cals than a KFC. That way I'm eating healthy after :bigsmile:0 -
So on a serious note, if I wanted to go out on a heavy night, would doing LOADS of exercise that day counteract it?
I mean, I'm guessing it's just carbs in beer right?0 -
Enter the amount of beer you plan on drinking into your food diary before you drink it then hit the gym....HARD. Stay at the gym until all the beer cals are worked off. Then when you go out drinking, make sure you only drink as much as you entered.0
-
Exercise enough to make up for it? Not saying that's an easy thing to do hungover, but... well, you gotta just make a decision.0

No I mean do the exercise beforehand.0 -
working out extra will help like calories wise but youll stillhave a gut..beer bloats you out I just have come to the realization that Id rather be a few pounds over where I want to be than give up drinking. Maybe when I am older I will try to be less of an alchie and be skinny0
