Confessions of a Soy basher

I haven't been too shy about jumping on a thread about soy and sharing my opinion that soy isn't for men.
My opinion was/is based on articles I have read that the phytoestrogens in soy could lower testosterone and boost estrogen. Both bad and scary things for men.
Standing in line at the check out yesterday, the one and only Mr. Bruce Lee was staring at me from the cover of the April issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine. Had to buy it because of Bruce and they have an article about soy. (how do they come out with an April issue in Feb?)
Research from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University confirms that consuming soy before a workout is a good idea.
Does this mean I am going to run out and get some soy? Probably not, it is only one article..but to be fair...I can no longer bash soy until more is known.

I always heard soy in LARGE quantities is bad for both men and women for hormonal reasons. but that's in huge amounts... I don't think soy is harmful in regular doses. not that'd I'm a big fan... :drinker:0

I am also NOT a fan of soy. But I do know there are many Asian recipes that use soy either as an ingredient or as a main part of the meal. That's a lot of people who don't have hormonal problems that use soy. But like I said I'm not a fan and don't plan on making it the staple of my family's diet.0

I avoid soy due to the possibilities of it increasing estrogen since I take a blocker from having Breast cancer that was fed by estrogen...
For a normal person - don't think it's bad for you either.0 -
I LOVE SOY!!!! Ok well I tolerate soy anyway! It has help me to loose 50 lb of fat while also gaining lean muscle. My husband on the other hand hates soy. We are both vegetarians and both have different eating habits. Soy is very beneficial to health but cannot be used as your only protein source. I would choose soy over any other protein source.0

The problem with soy is a lot of people have an allergy to it or a sensitivity in some way. My sis can't eat it or she stops breathing and I kinda like it when she breathes  . I already have problems with estrogen when I exercise and diet so I just stay away from it as a precaution. Women store excess estrogen in their fat cells and it releases when losing fat so I don't need any more I already get moody and weepy from it when I lose weight.:huh:0

I buy bread with soy as a source of protein for my son who is a vegetarian. But he only really eats it once a day if then and with peanut butter. It is a great source of protein and the product is usually accompanied by a good source of iron. But I guess everything needs it balance. I didn't know about the hormone difference thing though. Need to research that more for my little boy.0

<<Both bad and scary things for men. >>
I dunno. I might disagree with that.
