So Today I started the keto diet and I though to myself ground beef wouldn’t be bad, so I went to go buy some and weight it on my food scale 12 oz of ground beef was about 1250 calories I’ll just divide it into 2 meals and fyi I need to eat about 1700 calories a day and with olive oil broccoli avocado I’m about 1600 anyways my question is. Is eating ground beef every day bad for you? Is 12 oz a day a lot?

I suppose it will be okay, but boring. Variety is the spice of life, you know what I mean?

Nothing wrong with eating ground beef every day but I think your calories are wrong. Raw 80/20 is about 850 calories for 12 ounces (I think).

Your right it’s 840 calories for 12 oz. so 12 oz a day is not bad though right?

I’ve been doing keto for about 2 1/2 months know and for lunch at work everyday I have one an 80/20 ground beef hamburger patty with one slice of mild cheddar cheese, and a tablespoon of mayo for added fat. I’ll supplement with some steamed broccoli or cauliflower and honestly it’s one of my favorite meals and the only carbs are from my chosen vegetable. To date I have lost 46lbs this way

No, it's not bad for you. I eat 7-8oz of 80/20 ground beef almost daily.

I personally would not eat that much ground beef daily.

Here's one discussion (interview with Walter Willett) of increased risk associated with high levels of beef consumption: https://www.latimes.com/health/la-xpm-2012-mar-24-la-he-five-questions-walter-willett-20120324-story.html

I realize they are necessarily relying on longitudinal studies and it's hard to eliminate other variables, so I don't worry much about moderate consumption of red meat, but I certainly would not base my diet around it to that extent if I had options, but would include eggs and a variety of types of meat, especially including fatty fish like salmon, which have specific benefits (omega 3s, and specifically DLA/EPA). I also prefer not to eat meat at every meal (or every day), but I realize that's tougher when doing very low carb.

I agree, I wouldn't eat that much ground beef daily. I mean honestly I don't eat a lot of beef in general (I tend to eat a lot of chicken), but honestly I don't think I'd typically eat 12oz of any sort of meat daily and I am far from a vegetarian.

I'm hoping, for your sake, that your 12oz a of ground beef isn't just sauteed ground beef, but rather things like cabbage rolls, hamburgers, bolognaise (I can't imagine eating 12oz of beef in bolognese in one day though), chili, meatballs, etc etc.

For reference, I consume a similar amount of net calories and probably eat 10oz of meat a day at most. I suspect most days it's around 8oz.
