Best “Me” Investments:
Food scale
Bluetooth Bathroom scale
Nutribullet, with extra Cup and Blade
Nut Milk bag
Monthly subscription to Wild Soil Almonds (half the price of While Foods’ almonds)
Extra Tablespoons (half dozen) can just leave in frequently used containers & so there’s always clean ones in the drawer
Dehydrator for homemade beef jerky
Gym membership with staff RD dietician I’ve visited several times
Barbell Gym Membership and sessions with the most inspiring trainer, possibly ever in the history of excercise, 2x a week
Yoga/Pilates studio membership (can you tell I’m unmotivated if left to my own devices?)
Good walking shoes
Two great quality yoga mats (so one can air out while the other is in use, love the Gaiam Dry Sol Extra long mats!)
“Rat Pad” for knees and head during yin classes
Apple Watch
Wood flooring extended up one wall in the spare room, so I can put hands and feet all over it while stretching or doing yoga
Foot massages every couple of weeks ($30 an hour? I used to spend more than that on chocolate)
And lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of bananas. Enough that cashiers ask perky questions.
What I don’t spend money on:
Workout clothes: Cheapest possible and wear them til even the dog won’t come near. Talking $10 leggings here.
Protein Bars and Powders : Tastier and cheaper to just eat more chicken. But we live in chicken country, where it’s dirt cheap.
Parking: $5 a pop. So I walk the mile to my classes and gyms
Mats : my Gaiam Dry Sols last forever, and discovered I can throw them in the washing machine when they get stinky and air dry them since I rotate mats
Expensive mats: never again. Tried one of the trendy mats last year. Gifted it to my daughter after two uses. The Dry Sol are 1/3-1/2 the cost and way more grippy and comfortable.1 -
Gym membership, decent wireless headphones , excercise bra and leggings, good kitchen scale, blender cups, and kitchen gadgets. It's a lot easier and more fun to work out or cook with good tools, lol.0

Food Scale and my FitBit (so I can track my daily burn better) I have had the food scale for a while - love it! But lately knowing what my exercise is doing to be more accurately logged has really helped too!1

I haven't lost a ton of weight. I have lost inches though. The best things I bought other than a scale was a good pair of running shoes and a yoga mat. I got professionally fitted at a running store. It made me more comfortable to walk and eventually to run. Running has helped me build my cardio endurance. Yoga helped me restore my balance and flexibility. Oh, and my gym membership but that came last after I had started to make progress.0

1. Good shoes (I like Nike Free) - I call this my gym membership (I just walk)
2. Fitbit with HR capability (Charge 3 right now) - again for the walking, have a desk job and need to move more
3. Food scale
4. Nice lunch containers/lunch box (used to always go out for lunch)
Bonus: Renpho smart scale -syncs my weight to Fitbit which in turn ends up in myfitnesspal automatically. No typing in weight daily!
Also bonus: a couple cookbooks! One of my favorites right now is "Just Add Sauce" by America's Test Kitchen, because I can use sauces to make low-cal but filling food like chicken/veggies/beans more interesting and varied when I meal prep.0 -
A food scale, measuring cups, a fun container for my water, and a good pair of walking shoes. Also, nothing fancy but comfortable t-shirts and leggings, thick socks for walking. Decent ear buds too! Good Luck!1

I think my Fitbit has been a huge help. I thought I was doing ok moving around each day, turns out not so much.2

Absolutely necessary is my digital food scale. Dragged out my Vitamix, dusted it off and put it to work. I LOVE soup but am avoiding the the canned stuff (sodium) so now I can make homemade quickly and easily!0

To me there were three very important things:
A kitchen weight scale: to help calculate the grams of food i am eating and hence keep an accurate calorie diary for what i ate.
A body weight scale along with a measuring tape: to tract my weight and waist circumference along the way
A gear fit: or a fitbit , any device that help accurately count the calories you've lost during a workout2 -
Food scale (and use it for everything!) and a tape measure - I've found physical measures and health markers to be more motivating than the body scales.

A digital kitchen scale that measures in both grams and ounces, enough capacity to allow me to put a heavy pot on and then add food, and a tare function (for zeroing out the weight before making new additions).0

food scale here too, nutribullit, & only IF you love dogs,(otherwise the dog will suffer) get a dog (or volunteer at a shelter, walk a friends dog) that HAS to get out & exercise. I take my dogs out every day weather I want to or not because I love them & they NEED it. I get most of my exercise from walking. We also go to the dog park where there are hills I run up/down. Today we are joining a private dog park with a 2,000 gallon pool for dogs & agility yard2

Food scale, definitely! And good shoes, first walking and later running shoes.
A couple of items not directly related to food and exercise have also helped me along the way. I got a new mattress which enabled me to get much better sleep, which helped me to be well rested and not skip my exercise or overeat because I wanted more energy. I also subscribed to an Ipsy makeup bag, because trying on new makeup once a month acts as a reward, instead of rewarding myself with food, and also reminds me how much better I look now that I’ve lost weight.3 -

I’m currently restarting my weight loss journey after losing ~60 pounds three years ago, but have unfortunately gained it all back. My question for those who have had success - are there any tools that you purchased which made your journey easier?
I am trying to prioritize my health, and if that means spending more money to be healthy, I’m ready to do it!

For me:
1. Premier Protein Drink each morning. Nothing else.
2. Strong commitment to avoid all fast food, all sugary drinks, all breads & cakes, all deserts (except for a very very rare bite once in a while), red meat (once a month if any).
3. Strong commitment to reduce and control meal portions.
I guess that there’s no special purchase here. The daily premier protein is what got me motivated and committed to eating better for the other two meals. And it’s worked.
Less food in mouth people. That’s the name of the game. If food must go into mouth then it must only be healthy nutritious foods 95% of the time.3 -
My most useful purchases have been a food scale, a scale to weigh myself daily, a "Simply Keto" book, a ketone meter, Beachbody's Chalean Extreme DVD weight-lifting program, Bowflex SelecTech dumbbells, 3, 5, and 10 lb. dumbbells, good running shoes, orthotics, and Billy Blanks TaeBo workout videos. The only big purchase gathering dust is my bicycle. It's time to sell the bike. l rode it for a while, but lost interest after the chain slipped (operator error) and I fell off.0

A). A food scale, as noted above. It’s SO frigging easy to underestimate the real amount of food you’re eating. Quit guessing!!! Pre-weigh your food and enter it in MFP before you eat it!!!!
a decent human scale, and dont start obsessively weighing yourself! Allow for minor fluctuations and only weigh once a week, buck naked, first thing in the morning!
C) my Garmin Vivosmart. I wear it all day except for shower time. It’s synced with MFP so it’s tracking my steps, distance, calories, exercise times, sleep patterns and heart rate. I set it up so that if i sit still for 50 minutes it vibrates and tells me to MOVE!!1 -
Food Scale, Weight Scale, and an instant pot... now I don’t have an excuse to not cook a healthy meal... I used to say that it would take to long to thaw and cook chicken, so let just go to (insert fast food here).... now I can cook frozen chicken in the same time it take for me to go to get fast food and come home.
I also got a subscription to Beachbody on Demand... I like having good workout programs available to me at all times (i cook my chicken while I do my workout at home)0
