I just started using the app today and I’m already coming across a little issue. I get over 1900 cal per day. Do I have to use them all?

Why wouldn't you?
It's a goal, set to have you lose weight at the rate you selected.4 -
You don't need to starve to lose weight.
Also, if, for example, you are used to eating say 3000 calories a day, 1900 is a fair drop.
I'm not sure how you set your goals up in the app, but if you set your stats and choose a modest weekly target (I advise against the highest setting - slow and steady wins the race), then you just follow what it tells you and technically you should lose weight.
I would be OVER THE MOON if the app told me I could eat 1900... I can - but that's my maintenance range.

It's common for people who haven't weighed and logged their food before to think that their MFP calorie goal is too high. Folks who aren't used to using a food scale generally do not have a good idea of exactly what a particular quantity of food looks like.
If you're like most people here, you will cry when you weigh peanut butter and see how little you get for 200 calories.9
