Seriously I am just sitting here racking my brain on what my goals mini or end goal is. I mean I know where I am right now is NOT what I want but I have no idea what that is...kind of I know when I get there kind of thing at the moment.

I see all these dates and weights on people's profiles and I am just stunned on how I could even put a date to what the scale would say.

So how do you set your goals, mini goals?

Thanks

You just need to think of what you want to achieve fitness and eating wise!? I have a lot of goals that I have yet to accomplish, but I am making progress, and it's working. Sometimes, just talking to people on here, or watching success stories on youtube is what got me thinking of goals! Good Luck!

for myself - my mini goals are 5lbs per month. I figured I could at least pull this much or close to it - IF I go over, GREAT - if not.. there's always next month

I'm really not putting a timeline on my fitness - just some mini goals to keep me on track & have something to shoot for

I set mine to lose 10% of my weight every 12 weeks. I stole the idea from Weight Watchers.

When I started I set my mini goal as getting into the 'normal' BMI range, and ultimate goal as the weight I was when I was previously at my fittest. Time-wise, I set my target as the date of a family event 3 months hence. Hope this helps...

Try picking a 1 pound per week loss goal, and every once in a while check yourself in the mirror. If you're happy with what you see, you're done.

I personally don't put a date on mine, I don't wanna get angry if I don't reach my goal by certain day and then go binge eating (I'm an emotional eater) and lose all the progress I've already made...I usually give myself a 2 or so month time to get to my mini goal. But currently my mini goals aren't weight lose, they're healthier eating styles and more exercise, so that I slowly work myself into being healthier than goin "cold turkey"

As far as weight, I picked a weight I was comfortable at back before I gained weight, which was 130. That's my big goal. My mini goals are in 3-5lb increments. When i was at 145, my next goal was 140. Now I'm 138, and my next goal is 135. The small "mini" goals are really helpful because it's easier for me to focus on a smaller number than to think "OMG I have 26lbs to lose!"

i have my ultimate goal which has no date set to it...but then for my mini-goals, i think after a few months on the site i figured out about how long it tool me to lose 10lbs, then i used that as my benchmark. for me, it was 10lbs in 7 weeks, so i set my mini goals up as losing 10lbs every 7 weeks :)

I started at 220 pounds. My first mini goal was 10 pounds.
My next mini goal (which I'm very close to) is 198. I was 199 almost 7 years ago on the day I got my positive pregnancy test for my oldest son. So 198 is one pound lighter.

I don't set short term goal dates, as a general rule. I have an ultimate goal date, which is December 31st of this year.

I set that date based on speaking with my trainer. I asked if that was a realistic date, and she said "Oh yeah, definitely." So I picked it because it is do-able and realistic.

I thought my ultimate goal would be 145 pounds. But then I found an equation that helps you determine what your healthy weight would be, if you know your current body fat percentage. Someone posted it here and it was awesome.

So my equation, from where I was when I started working with my trainer:
211 x .39 (39% body fat at the time) = 82.29. So 82.9 pounds of my weight at that time was fat.

Then you take the fat and subtract it from your total weight:
    211 - 82.29 = 128.71

Which means that 128.71 pounds of my total weight is lean body mass..which you need to keep.

So, then you figure out where you want your body fat to be. I am aiming for 24%, which is on the high end of "fitness".
    128.71 (lean mass) x .24 (projected body fat) = 30.89 pounds.

So, at 24% body fat, with a lean mass of 128.71, my total weight would be = 159.6

My original body weight goal was 145. But to reach 145 my I would have to loose lean mass, which I don't want. At 18% body fat, I would still be at 151 pounds.

So... knowing this, I adjusted my goal from 145 to 160. When I get to 160, I'll be able to assess how I look and adjust.

As far as where my mini goals are, once I hit 198, my next mini goal will be 195 by the 1st of September. That's when I have family visiting.

After that my mini goals will just be every 10 pounds.

Part of why I don't set time lines for my mini goals is because I realize that some weeks I won't actually loose weight, simply because I'm doing strength training as well as cardio, so as I'm loosing fat, I'm gaining muscle, so my scale won't always move. So if I set dates for weight loss, I will get discouraged. Instead, I shoot for a 2% body fat reduction each month.

Sorry this turned out so long.

    God bless!

I personally pick upcoming events as my goals and pick a weight loss goal of about 1 - 1.5 lbs a week. My fist goal is on my wedding anniversary and the next is my birthday. Set them reasonably and it is definitly something to strive for.
