Fatty liver

Anyone have any experience with fatty liver? Our doctor suspects my husband has a fatty liver, as his liver enzymes were elevated with his latest blood work. He is going to compare his results to some blood work he had done back in February and if the reading he got yesterday is an increase from February, then my husband has to go in for a sonogram of his liver. Of course we've read all kinds of horrifying things about the different types online. My husband isn't an alcohol drinker, just a food over-consumer. Any thoughts, feedback or advice is appreciated.

I have been through this with my wife. It was a scare that even involved a biopsy. It turned out not to be that big of a deal and the enzymes have been lowered in time. Based on doctors recommendation she takes milk thistle daily. Not sure if it had any real impact or if the weight loss was the bigger factor and the milk thistle was just along for the ride.1

No experience but I am a nurse. The good news is that when a doctor suspects fatty liver and you are diagnosed with fatty liver, it is reversible. Diet and exercise will help bring his liver enzymes back to normal as well as staying away from alcohol. If you stick to a healthy lifestyle, your liver will get back to normal.
On the other hand, if you get diagnosed with fatty liver and do not control it, it will eventually turn into cirrhosis of the liver. Once a person is diagnosed with cirrhosis, there is no turning things around and the only thing that can possibly save your life is a liver transplant. Think of this as a blessing in disguise if he does have fatty liver. You’ve learned about it early enough to make those changes!8 -

My sisters in laws husband has this. His diet consisted of energy drinks, sour patch kids for breakfast and junk food for lunch. He started eating better and lost a whole bunch of weight and wasn’t in pain anymore after eating.2

I have a fatty liver. I was originally diagnosed with NASH but a biopsy confirmed that it was fatty liver. To keep it from progressing any further, my liver specialist encouraged me to change my diet. I also have to be careful of what medications I take as my liver will grumble. I do have blood work monthly to make sure my enzymes are normal. The doctor also told me to drink a cup of coffee a day as it is good for the liver.1
