Grazing

When I started out tracking my calories and restricting my intake I didn’t know anything. I was hungry all the time. I didn’t know what to eat and what not to eat. I started buying all my food every day. I went to the grocery store and what a shock that was! Every thing has higher calories! After a while I got in a rhythm. What I found was if you buy lots of good quality food that be eaten in small portions you can eat all day. If I am not hungry this diet isn’t that hard. The good thing is that the calories don’t add up to much. My meals are smaller when I do have meals. I just have be creative finding food that can be portioned. Fruit is good. I cut bananas in half. I eat half salads. My drawer at work is filled with food. When i do eat a regular size meal it feels strange. My day is one big meal. This is what works for me. Just a suggestion if it is possible for you.

You ever notice that the people eating out who ask for a doggy bag are generally not overweight?

Good for what you’re doing and thanks for sharing.

I can't do it but I definitely recommend that people who are still struggling with their hunger to give it a try. This might work or a person might be more like me and eat a large volume mostly in one meal. It doesn't matter what the solution it only matters that finding what works is the key to sustainable weight loss.

Grazing tends to be too mindless for me, but I realize that we are all different!

I don't graze but I DO eat 5-6x a day on weekdays. it's worked great for me. On weekends I am more easily able to skip snacks to have a treat (be it a beer, bigger dinner or better dessert - one of those not all three!)

I do this! I have small snacks all day, and small meals. I get really angry if I don't get to eat regularly! :D
I weigh and log everything, and have lost 47 pounds and maintained just fine.

Half peanut butter sandwiches are my latest favorite snack. If you use store-brand bread and PB they're like 7 cents each and 160 calories.

Same. Grazing is dangerous for me but I do need to eat throughout the day at work or I get hangry.

The problem with grazing and little meals often is that these little meals are often like government bureaucracies, they always seem to get bigger.

What does give me problems is waiting too long to eat. Sitting down hungry for a meal is never good. At night my wife cooks dinner too late and I’ve grazed my way into overeating.

I can't make it work eating all day long, but I agree with you that it's a great idea to try different strategies and find what works for you.

I feel like a halfwit. I never thought of making half a sandwich. That’s brilliant!!! I have you an “inspiring” for that, lol

I try to leave 5-700 calories a day for snacks, starting with a piece of beef jerky and winding up with a banana cacao smoothie before bed. Even if I have a large dinner, I still feel antsy if I can’t have a snack before and a couple of snacks afterwards.

Hangover from the mindless eating days when post-dinner was some serious snack time. (As opposed to eating nonstop at my desk time. )
