Hello all, I am new here and I am currenty 15 weeks Pregnant. I was wondering if I need to increase the amount of calories the site shows or if there is a way to record my pregnancy I would like to maintain my current weight or continue to loose through the pregnancy. I had lost 65 lbs before conceving and dont want to see all that work lost
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You really should consult with your doctor. Generally, women are discouraged from dieting while they are pregnant. My first pregnancy, I walked - A LOT! - and only gained 16 pounds the entire pregnancy. I lost around 30 pounds after the baby was born, so essentially I did lose weight during my pregnancy. You don't really want to show a weight loss during pregnancy... but you can limit your gain to strictly baby weight.
Oh, and all I really did was follow my doctor's advise on how to eat.... and walked!!
And the majority of my weight was gained during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. During the first 7 months, I would either remain the same weight or only go up by 1/2 to 1 pound a month. So as long as you do what your doctor recommends, you'll be fine!!!
Congratulations, by the way!!! :smooched:0 -
You don't actually need to eat that many more calories during pregnancy. Ask your doctor what they think you should consume to maintain, as it's not safe to lose weight in most cases. Adjust your MFP goals to what your doc suggested. You'll still gain weight, but it will be because of water retention and baby weight.0

I would suggest talking with dr about this.0

My friend is at about the same spot as you are with pregnancy and she was told only to increase calories about 300 per day. Everyone is different though, so definitely ask your doctor about yourself.0

I would def talk to your dr.
I recently had a baby. I ate lots of fruit, veggies & protein. Drank lots of water. I did gain weight but, all baby weight. I found that giving into cravings by eating a small amount really helped me stay focused.0 -

This website tells you how many additional calories you need in each trimester of pregnancy. You have to gain weight usually unless you are still high above your target weight then I would suggest that you try to maintain by just eating a balanced diet and counting your calories so that you don't get out of control. Exercising while your pregnant is great just remember to alter the intensity or positions to suit your comfort during pregnancy. I would take what your maintenance calories are on this site and add the additional calories for being pregnant from the freedieting website. You really only need about 200 additional calories a day while being pregnant. It's what you are eating that's important. Good luck in your journey.0 -
babyfit.com
it's like MFP for pregnant women. I swore by it during my last pregnancy and only gained 15 pounds.0 -
Congratulations! I'd check with doctor FIRST then implement what the doctor says using MFP or one of the other sites listed in this thread - babyfit.com and freedieting.com. I would have loved to have known about MFP or those sites when I was pregnant!!! So much easier! Don't forget to ask the doctor about exercising!0

I used to teach natural childbirth classes with a big emphasis on nutrition and exercise. Make sure you are eating enough calories and protein. Watch what you eat and how it is prepared. Don't waste your calorie count on junk food. Make every bite count for both you and your baby. The weight you gain while pregnant eating whole, natural foods as opposed to processed foods will make the difference when it comes to dropping the weight after the baby is born.
You also want to keep moving. Make sure anything you do is with your OB or midwife's okay. Walking and swimming are both excellent exercises during pregnancy. Many exercises are good to continue. Bouncing and lying flat on your back after the 5th month would be two no-no's. There may be pregnancy fitness classes offered in your area. Be sure to check.
Another way to lose the weight after the baby is to breastfeed instead of giving the baby formula. Better for the baby, better for you.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!0
