I just started the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels. Any suggestions on how to log this as an exercise?

yeah if you dont have a HRM the "circuit training, general" at 27 mins is very close.....once I got my HRM it showed about 40 calories more then that

i don't have an HRM but I made it my own exercise and said 200 cals for one session of 30DS. I consider one session to be 20 minutes. When I do it, I try to view the cardio like HIIT and really get my heart rate up. I also continue working out while she is talking (now that I know what I'm doing). Also, when I run 2 miles in 20 minutes, the calorie thing here says about 200 cals...and I sweat WAY more with 30DS.
  • I do 30DS almost every single day. I wear my heartrate monitor (and depending on how hard I am working out to it) my calories burned range between 200 - 250. 200 being pretty much just going thru the motions and a little bit of sweat; 250 being precisely exact with the motions and a lot of sweat. The entire dvd is right about 27 mins (warmup all the way thru stretching). I personally log it as "Aerobics, high impact". Also, it might help if you know my stature and weight to compare what you would estimate your calories burned to be..... I am: 30 y/o Female, 5'6, and currently 229 (down from 255 on June 1st when I started MFP). Hope that helps!
  • I am 5'4" and 205lbs. I did my first session today with my HRM. I used 3lb hand weights. It said I burned 220 calories.

I also wear a HRM programmed with my stats and each time I've done level 1, my calories burned are between 300-350. I know that seems on the high end...but my heart rate gets high easily and stays high. My heart rate is about 170-180 during most of the exercises, coming down to 145-150 for the minute of abs. I'm 31, 179.6 lbs, 5'4.5".

Guess I should note I use 5 lb weights for most exercises, but use 10 lb weights for the chest fly, and 3 lbs for the shoulder raises while doing side lunges (weak shoulders!).

Mine reads high too. When I do 30DS, it tells me anywhere from 320-380, which I think is a little high. But like you, my HR stay around 155-175 the whole time, with only short drops into the 140s. I am 5'1" and weight 149lbs....so I am not in good shape and I am always dripping sweat when I finish. I do know that I am working hard but 350 seems high to me, so lately I have been subtracting 50cals from what it gives me.

also I use 5lb weights through the whole workout
