Anyone on AIP diet?? (Autoimmune Protocol)

I'm looking for people to connect with that are on the same plan my functional medical doctor put me on. He recently added a keto type addition to the AIP diet so I now have to aim for lower carbs and more protein because I want to lose 20 lbs and my sugars are high. I have an autoimmune disease called Hashimotos so I am looking for support and recipe sharing... If you are on this diet hit me up! oh and Im also doing intermittent fasting...

I have Hashimoto's - was diagnosed decades ago. Once properly controlled by medication, having Hashi's is not a barrier to weight loss.
I've also been doing IF for decades. I call it "Skipping Breakfast." There's no magic in IF, the only benefit is that it might help some people remain in the calorie deficit needed to lose weight.

Thanks for the replies! Hoping to get more people talking about their ideas and share recipes etc... Im new to this Fitness Pal thing and trying to maneuver around quickly has been challenging but im excited to connect with likeminded people.1

I just started AIP today, starting slow...my 13 year old is doing it too. It's such a great way to eat. Although, I'm a little nervous about making salad dressing and other things. I'm a mom and quick works for us, so this is a whole new ball game for us because this isn't quick...but I'm thankful that we're going to start feeling better.
Processed foods and "quick" is the problem...time to unravel bad habits!3 -
My daughter has autoimmune issues...Graves. She recently had a colonoscopy and endoscopy to rule out Crohns...which she doesn’t have but still not feeling well. We’re mulling with AIP....her endo basically said some foods are anti-inflammatory and recommends eating those...basically avoiding fast and processed, but wasn’t overly helpful. AIP looks hard...def a major change....but I’m will8ng to try it with her. Looking forward to hearing how it goes with you and your daughter1

When I was on AIP several years ago, two sites I frequented were hewon'tknowitspaleo.com and phoenixhelix.com. I had the cookbook from the first blog and really loved every recipe I tried, and enjoyed the weekly recipe roundups from the second. I had previously spent quite some time doing GaPS Diet so AIP was kind of an easier way of eating for me. I did find it effective at improving my health and discovered a pretty severe intolerance to black pepper that I had not noticed on GaPS.
I tried intermittent fasting last year. It led to a severe relapse in many of my autoimmune symptoms that I am only now starting to recover from. I don't really understand why it had such a negative effect, and maybe the relapse just coincided with the IF rather than being caused by it, but I wouldn't try it again.1 -
I went to a clinic that put me on AIP and several supplements. For the first time I was able to consistently lose 1- 1 and 1/12 lbs per week. I lost 55 lbs. Last year some stressful events caused me to ‘fall off the AIP wagon” I’ve gained back 35 lbs. I really want t go back on AIP I felt great and the weight consistently came off. Just having trouble getting started again. The clinic is a pretty far drive and was VERY pricey. I need to do this on my own.
I tried Keto this past summer, it caused my autoimmune to flare.1 -
I also have Hashi's (and a bunch of other crap, including diabetes) and while I don't adhere to AIP, I do eat low carb to control my blood sugar. AIP isn't right for my body and neither is IF (no one wants me dropping to the floor with dangerously low blood sugar, am I right?).
What does help with my inflammation is consistently taking my medication and BEING ACTIVE.0 -
I also have Hashimoto’s. I ate an autoimmune paleo inspired diet for years. It did help me feel less bloated and I think my sleep cycles were more regular but it became too restrictive for me. I’m also in recovery for an eating disorder and find elimination diets very triggering.
During that time I ate a lot of lean meats and fresh vegetables primarily. I’ve never been a breakfast eater (now I occasionally do eat it if I run before work) so black coffee has been my go to breakfast for years. Lunch was usually some type of berries paired with a large salad topped with almond slivers or sunflower seeds. Dinner was pretty much always a combination of meat and steamed veggies. If I wanted something sweet at night I kept dried cranberries and cherries in the cupboard.1 -
Following! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 2 years ago, I think we're still figuring out the right level of Levothyroxine as I've had to increase my dosage twice. Just curious to hear what has worked for people! About 6-7 years ago I was around 20 lb over (my ideal) body weight, and I successfully managed to lose it over about 4 months when I initially signed up for MFP. I was eating 1200 calories a day, and usually a cardio workout of 30-45min 5x a week. I had since increased my calories and started to get into more strength training - managed to keep it off until up until about when I was diagnosed, where I felt it came back on rather quickly. I don't know why it doesn't come off as it used to, in spite of trying a pretty similar regimen that worked the first time - but I feel your frustrations!0

I tried the AIP for a few months to see if it would help with my Sjogren's symptoms. No change. From what I've heard for many is that it works great for some, not so for others. I met a lady at the Dry Eye specialist who has Sjo as well and AIP worked great for her. It just left me depressed and exhausted all the time without any improvement. I hope it turns out to be helpful for you.0
