Germans are Ruining My Diet

Today was a pretty good day for a while. I ate lots of spinach, some oatmeal, black beans, whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies. I did a Jillian Michaels DVD and I did some serious yoga...This day of good health is in jeopardy because of the warm sugary cinnamon bread sitting on my counter.

If you live anywhere in the Northeast you know that it snowed today, a lot. My dad woke up really early and snow-blowed our driveway, then did our neighbors. They're new, they just moved here from Germany a few months ago, and as of yet do not have a snow blower. They have done a lot of shoveling this year. This morning my Dad was feeling good samaritan this morning and snow-blowed their driveway. Way to go Dad.

Then, just a few minutes ago, they brought over a thank you card and bread. Warm - yummy smelling - German bread...

IT'S STILL WARM! AND IT'S SITTING ON THE COUNTER SMELLING GOOD AND TAUNTING ME!

I can smell the sugary, cinnamony, nutmeggy, goodness, and it's driving me up the wall! Why must my dad be so neighborly? Why must my new neighbors be so nice and polite? This will be a rough night, me vs. the authentic german baked goods.

I say eat a piece. 1 piece won't kill you and how often will you get to eat authentic German bread? Just log it into your calories for the day and do some exercise

HAHAHAHAHAHA, this was funny. My grandparents are German (I am 1/2), and there is always a saucy something for dinner, german sausage for breakfast (which by the way is not a fatty sausage), and yummy sugary treats...................hang in there.....................

have a piece cuz you deserve it, then give the rest to the folks at work! it'll be gone in minutes and out of your mind forever! (sorry, i know it doesn't give you an immediate solution to the warm-n-googey-sweetness-staring-@-you-from-the-countertop problem, but maybe it'll help tomorrow!)

The germans ruined my diet today, i went to visit my grandma, she moved here from germany when my dad was 5yrs old. She is a awesome cook, so we had lunch at her house. It was german potato soup and dumpfnoodle which is a fried/steamed bun. Wouldn't be soo bad but she puts whole milk in her potato soup and the dumpfnoodle is fried in lard and then steamed with salt water. I limited my self to one dumpfnoodle and 2 bowls of soup. They wern't deep bowls so i am guessing somewhere around 2-3cups. So for supper i had a english muffin and a salad.

My stepmom moved from Germany when she was 22. After this summer, I will be moving back in with her and my dad. I'm worried about my wasitline! Her food is SO GOOD. She always cooks Italian or German food. Not the lite salady stuff either!

My wife and I vacation in Germany and Austria nearly every year. We eat and drink ALL of the great German cuisine (beer is considered liquid bread). Normally, we return home with little or no weight gain. The trick is to stay active daily. The German people love to walk. You will generally find a better quality of produce there, too. No chemicals or artificial stuff, Local farmers are proud of their wonderful fruits and vegetables. We especially enjoy the large white asparagus (Spargerl). Fear not, remember your portions are more important than the kind of food that you are eating.

I'm with babybeans! I want a piece! You've got my mouth watering!

I say go for one piece. One tiny piece. You've earned a treat today, and if you have a sliver, it won't be so bad and it will keep you from drooling!
