Has anyone had any luck with supplements for weight loss?

Supplements don't do anything for weight loss. Anything that claims to be a "fat burner" or "metabolism booster" is pretty much an overpriced caffeine pill. Some diet pills also contain an ingredient called "bitter orange" which has reports of perfectly healthy young people (20's and 30's) having a heart attack or stroke after taking it. The evidence is not conclusive yet, but I personally wouldn't want to risk a heart attack just to lose a few pounds.
There are also some diet pills that may make you test positive for opiates on a drug test.

ETA that many supplements like garcinia camobgia and green tea, that claim to suppress your appetite or boost your metabolism are not effective.6 -
I like to look at it this way - "if diet supplements actually worked, they wouldnt be in the supplement category and would be in the medicine category"
The supplement industry is highly unregulated and sell a lot of products that do pretty much nothing. No supplement will ever do what changing your diet and exercise can!5 -
If anything worked, it wouldn't be a secret. You'd know about it.4

Thanks, a friend of my sister has been taking something, I believe called Tru Vision and has had a major weight loss.....but it could just be a placebo affect.0

Notice that many weight loss supplements have fine print somewhere that says something like "when used in combination with a sensible diet and exercise program". Sometimes, with the online-ordered stuff, they even include details of that program with your order.
Guess which part makes our body lighter . . . and which part makes our wallet lighter?
About the only legal, safe weight-loss supplement ingredient is caffeine, and coffee is cheaper than the supplements.
If the issue is nutrition, nutrition from food is the preferable plan: It's evolution-tested.

I searched "truvision products" and it looks like there are 2 they put together for weight loss trufix and trucontrol.
Trufix claims to "tune up your blood chemistry" "boost metabolism" and "maintain liver function". First of all I don't even know what they mean by tune up blood chemistry? Like...what? major eye roll. As far as maintain liver function, if your liver is not working correctly you would be very aware and require medical attention, not a pill anyone can get online. Lastly, a pill can not increase your metabolism.
As for the "trucontrol" the active ingredients are B vitamins and caffeine from green tea. So the "burn body fat would just come from you moving around more due to more energy from caffeine consumption. Personally, a cup of coffee is a much cheaper way to do this. As far as decreasing appetite, some people say caffeine will suppress their appetite a bit but that is not definitive and minor if it works at all.
The cheaper way to do this would be to put your stats into MFP, select a healthy rate of loss, and eat at your calorie goal.

In the past when I have considered supplements (and foolishly bought some) it was because I was convinced I couldn't lose weight like other people. This belief was largely because I didn't understand weight fluctuations on the scale.
At the tops of some of the forums here there are threads with helpful posts. They can help educate you on the true mechanics of weight loss and hopefully get you past any myths you that could be holding you back.3 -
I am using a super effective supplement: eating at a calorie deficit and supplementing it with exercise. Works like a charm.

I use TruVision and it has helped balance my blood chemistry (as in blood sugars stay in normal range, my hormones leveled out, my periods became regular etc). If you want to be skeptical about it, go for it. I was until I tried it. I have been doing a low carb diet for four years per doctors orders along with exercise and lost a little bit of weight but was still in the obese category. I have been on TruVision for a little over a year now, still on the same eating plan and exercising program as I was before starting and dropped 30 pounds moving me down to slightly overweight. I've not stuck religiously to my eating plan over the past few months due to depression (having a difficult time facing my oldest child leaving the nest). I am working on cleaning my eating plan up and losing the last of the weight I need to get to my goal.5

I take a caffeine supplement every day in the morning. It doesn't help with weight, but it's delicious.1
