dry/cooked pasta ?

Quick question

Do you measure pasta of anykind dry or cooked.

When it cooks up it weighs alot more, rice noodles for stir fry seem to be my problem and spagettini.

Do you measure it dry for the serving weight you going to eat? or wait till its cooked.

    Most things like pasta, rice, etc you weigh uncooked. The extra weight is water in the food after cooking. It's only weighed cooked if you buy it cooked, like a pasta salad.

    Also, for measuring out cooked pasta, I had found this awhile ago and I think it's pretty helpful!

    Dry Pasta vs. Cooked Pasta Measurements

    8 oz. uncooked small to medium pasta shapes = 4 cups cooked
    Examples: Elbow macaroni, Medium Shells, Rotini, Twists, Spirals, Wagon Wheels, Bow Ties, Mostaccioli, Penne, Ziti, Radiatore, Rigatoni
    8 oz. uncooked long pasta shapes or a 1 1/2-inch diameter bunch = 4 cups cooked
    Examples: Spaghetti, Angel Hair, Linguine, Vermicelli, Fettuccine
    8 oz. uncooked egg noodles = 2 1/2 cups cooked

    Ohhhh, this is great. I bought some whole wheat spaghetti. What would a good serving size weighed (I have the dig scale) be?

    You measure whole wheat pasta the same way. Use the same measurements TamTastic gave. Watch the calories, though- I find them higher on my whole wheat pasta!:grumble:

    Sorry, I don't mean to sound dense:grumble: but if I do 8oz of spaghetti, it's four cups cooked, that sounds like a lot for one portion. Any thoughts?

    Usually one serving of pasta is 2 oz, which would be 1 cup cooked.

    I think that list I found was giving a general guideline for cooking a lot maybe! lol!!

    Thank you!!! Yes, it's only bf and I, plus he's living better along with me (and losing faster too:noway: ) so I have been weighing our meat before freezing for two portions but am just getting brave enough to go to pasta. In the past I made bigger diners but I am likely to go into another portion if given the chance:blushing: so I'm trying not to go there.:flowerforyou:

    I tend to do 75g a serving, less if it's a side dish
