300 plus pounds and feeling worthless

I am starting again on a new attempt to lose weight. Like many of us each time I come across a new program I ponder over it. Then decide to skip it. Something about this one, I’m not sure what, intrigued me. So here I am, with a new group of people, wondering how I will do with this program. Have you wondered the same thing?
I feel desperate. Specifically about my weight, and generally my health. Every few months of the past two years, I got a new medical diagnosis; some worse than others. It’s always been alluded to that if I didn’t lose weight I would die younger than I wanted to, now it has come true. My heart races, my breathing slows, and my bones break easily. I am in constant pain of varying degrees. Most times I believe it’s better to die than fight. Yes, I have and am struggling with suicidal thoughts. My therapist calls them chronic. Yep, one more problem.

So, here I am discouraged, depressed, and scared. Can anyone help me?

You can do this. Check out the Success forum and read some of the inspiring stories.

Then check out the Most Helpful Posts threads pinned to the top of each forum, lots of great beginner info there.

Don't try to do too much all at once, just start logging, start figuring out where you need to make changes, and then focus on fixing them with good habits, one at a time. Be patient, and expect to fall down sometimes, we all do, just keep going

So, I'm here for you - if that helps! I'm glad you came and shared; being transparent isn't easy but you were courageous. I think I can help maybe from my personal experience. I'd be glad to share more if you want me to. I don't usually post on MFP but have been using it to check in with myself and have had great success this time. Hope you're still fighting! You're SO worth it and deep inside I think you know that or you wouldn't reach out to say, "help!" I don't know how to find these "threads" if it's not posted on the side wall.

I agree with Kimny72...just take one step at a time. Each step carries you a little closer to success. You have already taken the first of those steps.

    1. You signed up here.
    2. You admitted to yourself you need help.
    3. Maybe the most important step...you asked for it.

If you need help setting up your goals just ask. People will be glad to help you. Find people that make sense to you and ask them. Kimney has been here for a long time as have some others and they are always willing to offer advice. If you have questions ask. You might get some varying answers but follow those that you think is right for you.

As far as a diet plan...find one that you like or come up with one that you think you can follow.Try to avoid the ones that say you can lose 10lbs a week...you can't except maybe for the first week. There are several ways that you can lose weight but you need to find the one that will work for you.

There are some good posts to read that will help you figure out how to this. They are listed at the top of the different sections. I don't have a list of them but someone will come along and post them. Read them...they will help.

The only thing that you need to do now is to take the next step.

You as well as your family and friends deserve you to be at your best. Just get up and go. Every single day. People have been in far worse shape than you and turned it around. Make the decision to be active every day and stick to it. Good luck.

If you are having self harm thoughts or suicidal thoughts, please get emergency help. Be willing to be admitted to inpatient treatment if necessary. You can address the weight loss after your mental status is more stable.

I agree with the poster above, you need to be seeking help with your suicidal thoughts. Either phone your local mental health crisis line or go to the emergency room. Please take care of yourself!

I haven't tried a program, though I did find using the atkins diet useful the last time I attempted to loose weight. I am finding keeping track of my food including weighing everything is helping me focus on how much I am taking in. I find it especially useful to input what I eat when I slip up. I have been a stress eater and find comfort in food. I find green tea helps me with the cravings especially fruit flavored kind. I found it gross when I first started drinking it but it grows on you.
I have never been a fan of exercise but have started walking. I got a Garmin viviofit3 which gave me a goal to reach each day. Watching the wristband flash with Goal! When i make it is satisfying. It's just walking and goals are calculated based on how much you walk making them achievable. It could help someone who can't do strenuous exercise due to pain.

There have been times in my life when I haven't liked myself. During those times it is important to focus on the things that make you happy. Books, TV, movies, gaming. I have a treadmill that I use while reading so I can turn exercise into something tolerable. You could try taking sometime outside and just take the world in. Star gazing, clouding watching, visiting gardens, or parks. Also, think about those you would leave behind. Suicide is not an option.

I'm a fan of pets as well. Pets give you unconditional love. They can really perk you up if you're in a slump. Cats are fairly low maintenance other than the litter box. A dog could help motivate you to be more active. Either way they would love you and depend on you to take care of them and keep them fed. Well, the dog would definitely love you. The cat may or may not deem to show you affection depending on its mood.
