I’m new

I have struggled with my weight and binge eating my entire life. Up until two years ago I always fluctuated between 155 and 220 my who life. Over the last 2 years I have blown up to a whopping 273 lbs. I am ready for change, I don’t want to hurt anymore, I want to live a healthy life and I am ready to no longer be addicted to food! This app seems great so far! I can’t wait to get to know everyone and share in success!

Hello and welcome to MFP, Chelsea,
I'm a 79 year old man who has been coming here to count calories for about 3 years now. Have only lost about 11 lbs. 9 more to go. First came here after major surgery. Had lost 20 lbs being on I.V.s at the hospital for so long. Started MFP to try and lose those 20 lbs I gained in recovery.
But that's NOT a success story. My success started when my wife told me she was trying to learn to swim at a local Parks Program for two summers. She said they were teaching little kids to swim but she was learning nothing. I said: "I just heard about a program called Silver Sneakers. We can both join Silver Sneakers and our health insurance will pay the Y our membership fees and we will just swim every day. You will learn like we learned to use our computer by just doing it." Three years later and we both swim 20 laps (1,000 yards) 3 days a week and use the Y's weight machines the other two days. Have turned a lot of fat into muscle and feel really healthy. Swimming is great for dexterity and weight machines for strength training. Humana gives us points each time we sign into the Y. Those we use to buy Swim Lap Counters, Vivofit Step counter watches, and over the counter prescriptions.
The hardest part is that swimming makes me hungry. (No surprise there, huh?) I have to battle to NOT EAT all the calories I burn exercising. You will hear a lot of people say that here.
Just don't beat up on yourself. Being over weight is "as American as apple pie." ( See the irony? Eating apple pie is associated with patriotism. LOL)
What is your favorite exercise, Chelsea? If you can make it a habit, and maybe even do it with others, that could be very helpful in accomplishing your goal. Just don't eat the calories you burn exercising. What do you think?

Enjoy life and be healthy and happy, Chelsea.
    Bill
