Can someone help me.. what happened when you ate something before you went to bed? did you gain back any weight??? =(

Men.. I just ate around 361 calories a while ago.. although it said on my food diary that the 361 calories is still ok for my daily intake because I just burnt 900 calories 2 hours ago.. what the hey is going to happen?? will the food i just ate going to become fat? i am so mad at myself because i wasn't thinking. i thought it's just little, but all little pieces became HUGE. should i eat lesser calories tomorrow?? should i work out twice as much? need advice..

I am no expert, but I believe calories are calories, if you are still within your budget you should be fine

One night of "over indulging" just before bed isn't going to hurt anything...Just start over tomorrow.....it takes more than 1 night to make you gain anything back...and if you get on the scales in the morning and it shows some weight up, then it's any sodium you ate in what you ate tonight...It will flush out once you're drinking water....

Firstly don't panic. Your metabolism is like a slow moving semi-truck when it comes to how it changes. One mistake here and there isn't going to hurt you in the long run. The key is to have more good days than bad days. Sounds like your getting some good exercise daily. Try to avoid eating anything 2-3 hours before bed and go to bed hungry (not starving). If you get some hunger pains drink some cold water, a lot of times when you think your hungry your body is actually just wanting H2O. If you're still hungry eating a small portion of protein or a piece of cheese will usually suffice. Stay positive!

hmmm. ive heard you shouldnt eat before going to bed but ive also heard that you still burn calories while sleeping. my theory is if your hungry then your body is telling you that you need food. but thats the way i feel about it. i could be wrong ... i work late at night and dont get home til 10 30 at night and i eat then ....but i dont go to bed til early morning... and sometimes i eat before going to bed and ive lost some weight. anyways i hope this helps you. good luck on your quest to lose weight i know its tough but hang in there ok...

Research tells us that for every 100grams you eat just before bed time you will gain at least 500 grams of fat!!

Nah - only kidding - you will be fine - you are still within your cals for the day - and nothing is going to happen....

Some people (me) struggle to fall asleep on a full tummy - or can get a big "sugar spike" from eating....

So ocassionally eating just before bed is not an issue .....just dont make it too much of a habit

As previous posters have said before me, calories are calories. Not to mention that if you exercised shortly before eating, your body is still burning calories (especially if it was strength training). So chances are your body will burn off a piece of that 300 calories just on principle.

I agree on the sodium thing as well. I always try to drink a decent amount of water before bed in order to get ready to flush it all out in the morning. Granted, it usually means a mad dash to the bathroom at 6:30 AM but I wake up feeling good and I don't often feel bloated in the morning (PMS aside!).

Long story short: you're probably fine.

Im unsure about this as well, I go to gym straight from work so dont have time to have dinner beforehand (and even if i did, i'd be starving afterwards). Usually I'll try to have something light for dinner since its usually around 8-9pm, but its getting old! I'm still losing weight so surely it can't be too big of a deal....

lol this wont answer your question but when i was 14 i use to go into the kitchen and make 20 frozen nuggets in the microwave at about 2am...i would melt kraft cheese on them to-and then sometimes at either 11pm or 4am i would usually heat up chef boyardi as a snack....lol so, guess thats why im here. dont sweat the small stuff

Calories are calories (well, mostly!). The belief comes from the fact that your body hardly moves and shuts some things down when you're asleep, having a slower metabolism. This is actually not true, hardly anything is actually shut down, you are asleep not dead! Your body also does a lot of repairing while you're asleep. I wouldn't sweat it. As long you don't pig out hugely right before you sleep (just because you shouldn't any time of day)

Well, looking at my calories burned chart on my BodyMedia Fit Activity Manager, I burn 1-1.2 calories per minute while I sleep. Compared to when I'm sitting around at work or whenI'm sitting around at home...when I burn 1-1.2 calories per minute.

So really, my guess is that it's no worse to eat something close to bedtime than it is to eat something and then just sit around while awake. As long as you're within your daily calories, you should be fine. :)

I am a fan of late night eating... I wake up with a grumbly tummy if I don't have a bed time snack. I lose weight, so it obviously works for me. Just see how you sleep tonight, see how the scale looks tomorrow and use that to gauge whether you want to eat at night again or not. :)
