  • I love split pea soup!! Tread carefully though, considering any ham products that go in it and the possible high sodium amounts.....

Split pea soup is wonderful - especially when it is homemade. Lots of fiber from the peas and veggies. Normally recipes do not call for that much ham added to it, so fat content is usually low. Ham is added more for flavor rather than being a "meat-based" soup. I love it cuz it has the consitency of a cream soup without the cream

Canned soups have a lot of sodium, however normally homemade recipes call for less sodium.

You could eat a lot worse - enjoy it! :flowerforyou:

 I love split pea soup..yum..yum... I have not had any since I began changinging my eating habits though. I was just wondering if a "ham base" could be used as a substitute?? But then again does'nt soup base have alot of sodium in it ??? Any suggestions, or helpful hints? Thanks neome90.
