Then and Now: A different kind of inspiration/fitness journey (I'm Trans) - add me if you like!

Hello, I have been on here a long time, but am currently just shy of 2 years into the journey of my life time as I transition. I was a certified personal trainer and an amateur bodybuilder and powerlifter in my previous life- and I truly loved to workout and still do, but my motives for doing so to the extent that I did (making my life revolve around it) were often to hide behind a very masculine image where it felt safe and where I knew that I was accepted. I am very open about my transition and am very active on Instagram (@avidlyallie). I have 3 gender-affirming surgeries taking place in 4 months and am currently trying to get into the best shape that I can be before they take place and before an extensive time recovering after during which I won't be working out very much. Please feel free to follow as I am always up for new friends!

Good luck with your surgeries, Allie! And make sure you stay safe. I used to worry a lot about gay bashing; lately I'm twice as worried about trans bashing. There's a stupidly large number of haters.
Whatcha doing in order to get in the best shape of your life? I started out just with a weight loss goal in January, but for the past month I've been working out as well. Mostly just cardio while I wait for some tendinitis to heal, and because that's what's familiar to me. I'd love some inspiration!1 -

Thank you so much. I live in a very conservative State, but I do my best to blend in and not draw attention to myself and so far I haven't had much trouble.
Lately, I have dialed back my upper body training and focused on lower body/legs/core 3-4 times a week along with increased cardio so that I can balance out the upper body bias that my muscle tone had for a long time. That combined with hormone therapy should put me in a more balanced place by the time my surgery dates arrive.0 -
Like others have said, you're definitely not the first to go down this this road. I'm trans (FTM) though gained and started losing weight years after I started transitioning.
There are definitely trans athletes, including powerlifters and bodybuilders (though logistically it's a major challenge to compete in, among other sports, powerlifting as a trans athlete who has transitioned and/or is taking T due to being FTM). Off the top of my head when thinking of elite trans athletes who compete at international events Chris Mosier has been on the US national Triathlon team multiple times, Molly Cameron races cyclocross at an international level (or used to) - though she races with men, and Rachel McKinnon won the the 35-44 sprint at the 2018 UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships. There are other people who I can think of but would have to google to look up their names.
I row (and compete - or rather, I have raced in one regatta and will likely race in a second in June), and I am by no means the only trans rower. Again, I started rowing more than 15 years after I started transitioning. I took a number of years off of sports for reasons unrelated to gender.1
