How long does it take for hair to grow back in females? Background: I was undereating last year because of wrong calorie calculations. I also had an eating disorder when I was a teen (25 now). I’ve been eating normally since December but not much hair has grown back! I reverse dieted from December to February. Have been in a deficit since March. Is it because I’m in a deficit that my hair isn’t growing back? Will it take months or years to grow back? I also have PCOS if that makes a difference? Could anyone share their stories about hair loss and regrowth.

I lost my hair due to chemotherapy, not weight loss, but it took quite a while to grow back. Ended chemo in April 2001, stopped wearing wig to work in October, IIRC. (Hair still pretty short at that point.) Loss from calorie over-restriction could be different, though. Shoot for sound nutrition (enough proteinsl, fats micronutrients), and hang in there.
Note that Rogaine is an option for women, not just men, if you want to go that route. If hair doesn't start regrowing, talk with your doctor, maybe also a registered dietician.
Wishing you good progress!2 -
I lost a lot of hair due to low calories. I don't know how long it took - my hair was shoulder length and it just thinned at that time, so the grow back was hard to see. I'd say just eat as well and as much as you can and it will get better.

Because of the hair follicle life-cycle, it takes months for hair loss to kick in, and more months for recovery.
Meanwhile, you may wish to get tested for deficiencies that contribute to hair loss, such as iron and iodine.
I eat plenty of protein, but I still get iron-deficiency hair loss when my anemia is not properly treated, which I cannot do from food alone.0 -
I was severely anemic due to medications. Once I got it treated properly, I noticed a halo of new growth at my crown well over a year later. Treatment started in 2014, and the new growth is finally past my ears now.2

I lost hair post partum and some re grew. I would say it took about a year to fully grow back in. I’m currently going through this again after my second baby . Lost a bunch and I can see frizzy re growth around my hair line on my face, oh the joy.2
