Only day 2 and I’m already not...

.... remembering to track and when I finally did I was way over in cals. How do you stay on track when you’re out all day with family and they only think you can eat without Soy are Fries.

Do you have mfp on your phone as an app? If yes . Remind yourself to enter the food before or after eating.

Plan/log your daily menu ahead of time, know what you will be eating, take snacks when out, if eating out look for online menus then you can estimate calories for your preferred meal...allow for some flexibility if needed.

I agree with the previous poster. Pre log. That is what got me into a routine during my first month on MFP. And like mentioned above, if you are out all day, plan ahead, check out the restaurants that you will be around, plan your meal and log it! I am a strong believer about taking that extra time the night before to plan out the following day's meal, that way it leaves little room for a slip up.

Perhaps you could take a photo of your meal, if you're away from home. Then later on, when you have time to log it, you'll be able to remember clearly what you had.

Also, give yourself a chance to get use to the new routine. You'll get used to logging everything eventually. I agree with the others that pre-planning where you can is easier. That way you can think calmly about what to eat, rather than deciding when you are hungry and rushed - I don't know about you but that's when I make disastrous food choices!

I used to carry a small notepad (before iPhone cameras) to write down my food.

I would enter it all at the end of the day. Still better than being overweight. Once I made the decision to lose the weight I did whatever my creative brain could come up with to make it happen.

There's always a way. It may be a case of two steps forward and one step back, but there is a way.

Always do your best to fill in your food diary no matter what. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be perfect, just consistent. You aren’t off track when you’re keeping your diary. Even if you’re going back to play catch up.

If you’re anything like me, Saturdays sometimes present special situations and special problems. Think over what happened and see what you might do better next time. The way you get to goal is by identifying problem areas and finding solutions. Don’t be distressed if it takes a while to find effective plans for particular problems. The only way to get off track is to quit the process. The process is more important than the numbers. There’s a significant learning curve. Give it time.

So its only day 2 and you made a mistake. So what? Its day 2 of piano lessons and you played a wrong note. You going to quit because of that? There’s lots of ways to make mistakes in calorie counting, inadequate plans, loss of concentration, fatigue, misread NI and menues, even math mistakes. Fortunately perfection isn’t required for calorie counting to work.

Stop and look at what’s happened. Your plan proved to be inadequate, you went over your number and now the voice in your head wants declare it a disaster. This is the path people follow to wreck their programs. Don’t go there. Keep problem solving. You’ll get it.
