help!

i've not totally got the hang of this mfp yet as you will see and i really need help in understanding how this works. today i only had soup for dinner as i had the pleasure of having 4 injections and 7 fillings extracted from my teeth and new ones put in. having had the soup only for dinner and done my usual 30 minute walk with the dog i've ended up with almost 600 calories surplus. not sure what to do - am i supposed to find something to eat that's approx 600 cals or, is it okay to have excess calories once in a while. if i don't consume my daily calorie goal does this slow down my weight loss.
i'm sorry if i'm asking really basic info but this isthe most i've stuck with a healthy eating / fitness plan in a long time and i want to get it right. any advice welcome!!!

    i wouldnt worry too much at the moment. you shouldnt force yourself to eat anything after major dental work like that.
    just eat what you can. a day with a few too less calories every now and then wont hurt you. just get back to normal in your own time. we all have times when we cant eat, through illness etc. its not the end of the world.

    My general rule of thumb on exercise calories is, if you're hungry eat them back but if you're not (or otherwise can't eat...I've had the tooth issues too) then don't. What works for one person may not work for you though. I vary the amount of calories that I eat in a day and I've been losing weight steadily :smile:
  • Typically if you are a woman trying to lose weight you don't want your caloric intake to drop below 1,200 calories a day. Dropping your caloric intake below 1.000 calories a day is extremely unhealthy and can cause your body to go into starvation mode. That being said, there are circumstances (like being sick or having dental work) where it just isn't feasible to eat. As long as you don't feel hungry, you are fine. If you want to boost your caloric intake but stay with something soft go for a glass of milk, light ice cream, yogurt of pudding. If you feel satisfied from the soup then I would say you are perfectly fine :)
