Other than seeing a remarkable before & after transformation.. That's a given.

For me it's running. When somebody just announced that they ran for the first time. Or ran for X amount of minutes for the first time. Or ran a whole 3 miles for the first time. Or ran a half marathon for the first time. Etc, etc, etc. I get SO excited when I hear this stuff. So many people who thought they would never be able to run due to asthma, being out of shape, mental barrier, etc, just giving it a try, and then before you know it, they've caught the bug and are officially runners! It never gets old.

I haven't had it easy over the last 5 years, but I still remember to smile....
I love to see people smile, even when life throws you a pretty hard curve ball, not everyone can do it. They fall into the why me pitty party....A smile....something so small can show some pretty intense inner strength.

It makes me happy to see people happy - I'm very empathic, so I tend to feel what other people are feeling very well. :3 It makes me terribly happy to see people enjoying life as it comes.

I'm with you on the running.

I love when people get excited about food, real food. About cooking for themselves, I LOVE when people like me embrace their food allergies and find that food can make them feel strong and healthy. I love when girls like me, girls with an eating disorder, see that food isn't the enemy. That they can control their body and control their food without severely restricting their calories.

I love when people can announce they're survivors. I have been through hell, more than just food issues, and I love hearing the stories of women (and men) who have survived the things I survived and come out stronger and unbreakable.

Glad to be making you happy here lately then! :-)

What makes ME happy to see in other people?

I love it when others start to run also! I'm so addicted now, I want to talk about it all the time, so it's such a rush to find out someone else recently began and is as excited as I am. I like to talk shoes, gait, stride, breathing, times, races, hills, aches and pains...

I also love to see RL friends start logging and seeing success. I wanna say "told you so!," but I just congratulate them and move on. =)

I like it when people get out of their comfort zone and try something new, and actually like it... whether it's cutting their hair for the first time after 20 years with the same hair style, or trying fish or sushi. I like to experience new thing- new cultures, that expose me to completely different ideas. It's great to be able to share that experience - that makes me happy.

    What an encouraging thread! =)

A spirit of joyful volunteerism! That is what makes me so happy.

I'm a volunteer coordinator at my church, and while I LOVE what I do, lately I've been feeling down about it. I don't have enough volunteers, and for many of them that I do have, it's more of a chore for them than a joy. But even this week, I had a new person start, and 3 days later she came up to me and said "I had SUCH a blast working with the team on Sunday!" That made it all worthwhile for me.

being able to do something that they couldn't do before period. That is just the best feeling and its great to see how excited people get when they get to do something that they have always wanted to do but couldn't do. :)

I love when people take themselves out of their comfort zones to better themselves and others around them.. whether improving their fitness, or helping others they don't really know, etc...

to see people happy with the results they've gotten, whether on the scale, in inches, in accomplishments or in attitude. Also I am happy when I see a woman realize the benefits of lifting weights for the first time.

I love watching people be accountable, take ownership of their choices.
  • Ditto on the running.

I love seeing people excited about things that are challenging or even frightening. People pushing themselves in ways they haven't before and taking chances is so ****ing beautiful.

My best friend is training for the Portland marathon and he is a little scared but I have never heard him so thrilled about anything like this. He checks in with me about his training routines and tries not to brag too much about his latest triumphs (speeds, distances) but fails miserably and ends up gushing, which makes me smile so much my cheeks ache.

I see that same type of excitement on this site all the time and it is wonderful.

You'd love me then. All my life I thought I couldn't run because of my bone disease. I'm not sure what's gotten into me, but 3 weeks ago I decided to give it a try. Holy crap I can actually run! It's my main exercise now.

To answer the question though, I would have to say compassion for animals. I know it's not fitness related. But to me, it's really important and in my line of work (vet tech) you become so jaded by the people who lack it that it's really refreshing to see it in someone.

Positive people. I've had some really horrible stuff in my life but I challenge myself and others to look for the silver lining, it is always there. I can't stand people who whinge.

I also love people who love cats.

Great thread topic, O Great One, Taso42!
Like some of the others on here, I'm a big sucker for philanthropy and volunteerism too, but in terms of fitness/healthier lifestyle stories, I also love hearing about personal triumphs in RUNNING.

To anyone that thinks they "CAN'T" - look at link below for inspiration; here is a lady that didn't start running until she was SIXTY-SEVEN years, is still running at NINETY-FIVE, and she does it all 'her way' - she still eats meat and drinks Jack!!!

I'm happy when people, especially women, learn the difference between real true confidence and a feigned superiority complex. The real deal is SO classy and beautiful, and understated.

I love it when I see a kid do the right thing while in the midst of other kids behaving badly. It gives me hope, and in my heart I cheer that child!
