I am pretty new to healthy eating and exercise. I have been doing really well in the two weeks since I deceided 250lbs was not acceptable for a 5'5" woman. I started off losing 10 lbs with no proble but the past 2 days all I have wanted to do is eat and I dont mean healthy eating. I have put back on a pound and Im affraid I wont be able to stop eating.
Has anyone else had a set back like this? How did you bounce back?

  • I weighed in at 244#'s at 5'8" in January of '07. I'm now at 193# with a target of 154#.

I diet 2 weeks at a time and weigh daily. If I gain 3# I immediately go back to the diet. My motivation is health. I've had my heart attack and have Type 2 diabetes.

I've cut the diabetis medication in half with the weight loss. I should be at zero medication when I reach 154#. I'll never stop the cycle of two weeks diet, two weeks off and go back to the diet if I gain 3#.

The only other thing I do is eat no more than a fistfull of food in any restaurant because I can't control what the restaurant puts in the food.

So, that is how I've learned to handle "set backs". I give myself permission to gain 3#.

Exact same thing happened to me! I lost 10 lbs easy the first month. The 3rd week was the hardest for me too, don't know why but that's when I started craving EVERYTHING.
That's when I started to find ways to "cheat" - like those 100 calorie packs. I stopped eating as healthy and found bad foods that still were low in calories. Well guess what, that's when I stopped losing weight!
So now, I have re-evaluated my diet - stopped eating those bad foods, and am back to good and nutritious foods.
Don't give up and don't give in. Just remember NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS!
    Good luck to you!

lashonda, go to abcrunch.com and download a free 5 week menu. you eat six times each day and drink at least 8 oz water each time. the first two weeks i was on this program i took in my belt three notches. in 90 days i dropped from a size 15 to a size 13 loose. the tougest problem i faced was in my head. previously i ate one meal a day and worked out like crazy and i gained weight. i followed the proportions on the menu exactly and i found that i had more energy, my nails stopped breaking and my tiny lines and wrinkles around my mouth and eyes began to disappear. you have to learn to use food for fuel. let me know how it goes.

I can feel what you are going through. I seem to loose 8-10lbs and then plateau for weeks and then I will drop another 8 lbs or so. I recently read that your body adjusts to changes very quickly and an easy way to break through a plateau is to increase your exercise by 20% until you start to loose again. So say you were working out for 30 minutes a day you would want to do 36 minutes a day. OR if you are a mileage person, like I am you want to increase your distance by 20% so say you walk 4 miles a day you want to do 4.8 miles until you see the weight start to come off again.

I also notice when I get discouraged from plateaus that is when I seem to want to eat because the little fat girl in my head says what the heck, all this work and starving to death and no weight loss, eat a peanut butter cup or 10, that is when I know I have to really get my head in the right place and get my big butt to the gym or roller blading or something.

    You can do this!

    edmundcooper,

A few restaurants allow you to ask for half portions... try it next time you go out to eat.

It helps if you don't set your goal too low.
