Need motivation and advice big time

Hi all, im just turned 40 and classed as “majorly obese” hate that term but that’s it.
I lost 8 stone through orlistat via Gp and dieting /fitness but put it all back on and more when I met my partner and stress/anxiety through losing someone close to cancer. I’m desperately looking at ways to get back to where I was and feel good about my body and mental health. I would love any advice, tips etc for motivation or daily exercise that helps with athritus in knees. Can’t do certain things due to locking. Hope to hear from you out there x

Start with logging your food. Weigh everything on a scale. Once you've done that, set it up for weight loss. It will help you tweak your diet once you see where changes need to be made.

Decide on an exercise program you can stick to. I've started riding my exercise bike each day back in January and while I dont always feel like doing it, it's great for my body and my mental health. I'm able to bike reading while rockin out, two of my favorite things! There's also a lot of workout videos on YouTube you can do.

Good luck, you can do this!

Make small changes over time. The small changes definitely add up. When you get off track, forgive yourself and move on. I agree with the above advice to start by logging your food. If you go over calories, just log that too. Having the data to look back at is helpful a few months from now when looking back to see changes in your eating patterns.

I don't know if this advice will help, but here's my 2 cents worth...my father recently passed away from a long-term illness - i won't say i know exactly what you are going thru, but my heart goes out to you. We as a family are trying to come up with ways to honor him. 1st) we are discussing walking a 5k to raise money to go towards finding a cure for his condition 2nd) we are looking into paying to have trees planted in a park near us, so we can walk out/hike in the woods to see those trees (my dad loved to take nature walks when he could). Those specific things may hurt your knees, but maybe you could find a way to honor your loved one that also ties into losing weight and make it a goal to work towards it. 💜

Also, if you have access to it, I have found water aerobics to be very gentle on the joints of the body. 🙂

A few thoughts: you might benefit from seeing a therapist or counselor to deal with the underlying anxiety, grief, and stress. That is probably step #1.
That being said, I’d focus first on logging your food and consuming less calories than you expend CICO. Aim for a small weight loss goal at first.
Exercise is next, after the therapy and diet. Find something you enjoy doing. That’s the most important. For knee issues, swimming. Because you have arthritis in your knees, you’d probably get the most benefit getting a referral from you doctor/rheumatologist for physical therapy.
