@Machka9 great photos :) great scenery.
Last week 58 miles, 5 hours, 11.4 mph average speed. I'm a week behind schedule on my distance goals for the month. Spring weather is a pain in the neck.

I've been working more on time in the saddle this week than anything else. It's just hard to try to improve anything once your tush goes numb. I can go comfortably for more than 100 minutes now, and am working on 2+ hours (quite uncomfortably, but needs must.)

I've been spending the majority of my time on a paved trail because I noticed that on the road, every time a car passed me, my line started to wobble. Just spending time on my bike has helped with that. On my last ride, there was a short stretch on a county highway with lots of traffic, and I noticed that I'm holding a straight line much better now. I think I'm just about ready to be on the road again (at least during lower traffic hours...Saturday mornings may have to wait a few more weeks 😅).

I'm also working on holding my line while looking around: for instance, checking behind me for traffic. I'm deliberately exaggerating my head/body twist and holding it a moment longer than necessary. I'm improving...which only means I'm remaining on two wheels. I'm definitely not ready to try this in traffic. Or while riding with anyone else. Or near pedestrians. (In other words, this is still a deserted-parking-lot maneuver 🤭.) #lifegoals?

Interesting info about holding a line. never thought of it that way.
I was struggling on my ride the other day as it as crazy windy. so side wind was better htan head wind in some ways i wasn't holding a very good line (and i'm still very green so my line is probably not great to begin with!).

    ***

Update: I am going to try and plan for my first ride to work in the next 2-3 weeks. Some research still to be done and need to pick up a second lock.

April 28th: purchased bike and rode the 6km home!
    April 30th: 9km
    May 2nd: 10.5km
    May 5th: 11km
    May 7th 10km
    May 12: 8km
    May 16: 9km
May 19: 13km (new route, had fun exploring!)
    May 20: 10km

"Holding a line" may or may not be common parlance; I think I got it from motorcycling or possibly even from my daughter the equestrian. It's just something I miss a lot. A decade ago when I had been riding regularly for several years, I could do almost anything without stopping: eat, drink, change my sunglasses, sit up and ride with no hands for a bit (not for long; a triathlon bike doesn't have the right geometry for it), turn halfway around to check for traffic coming up behind me. But then again, I was consistently riding 100-125 miles a week. That's not far for a dedicated cyclist, but as a triathlete you have to consider I was only riding three days a week, max, to leave time for everything else.

    ***

@Panini911 If you'd be willing to take a small piece of advice, consider riding your preferred route to work on a non-work day first. That way, it's if it doesn't work out for any reason, you're not up the proverbial creek without your paddle.

    Past week's totals: 33.6 miles, 2:34.

I "owe" myself another ~20 miles today, but it just won't stop raining, and an hour on the trainer is about all I can handle. Should a miracle occur and the rain stop, I'll try to get out again. Otherwise it's just going to be an abbreviated week.

Need to work up the distance as I've entered the Prudential Ride London 100 riding for charity in memory of my father-in-law and brother-in-law who both passed away this month from cancer. That will be my first closed roads Century.

170 miles so far for the month.

I've not enjoyed May and will be glad to see the end of it!!

My mashed up lumbar discs started to play up badly with multiple massive muscle spasms and weakness down one leg. A couple of long days driving didn't help either. 8lbs of (water) weight gain in 4 days is an unwanted personal best.

Nine days unable to ride at all but I'm recovering now and slowly building up the cycling again from local bumbling around on my hybrid to a 26 mile gentle hybrid ride and finally got back on my road bike today.

Dropped the tyre pressures, stayed up on the hoods, wore a back support and tried my hardest to avoid potholes and bumps. Did 50 miles at a decent pace and comfortable on the bike but rather difficult to dismount!

284 miles for the month so far.

390km for the month of May so far. Did not cycle this weekend. Had a fall on Friday and only later discovered it was more serious than I thought. :) Will be back riding on Tuesday.

    wow!

    **

Have decided on route to cycle to work, however chiro recommends (and I agree) that i hold off a bit longer. But I did finally bike the first 6km (of a total 9) yesterday and it's a pretty nice/safe route (I bus/walk along the last 2km so only a small portion i haven't "seen" and that is all on a bike path away from roads).

one more ride and i'll hit my first 100km. Small numbers to some but it's my first bike since high school and have had it a month (plus taking it slow to not impede rehab on quads/hips).

It's been a very sad and rainy May.

    May 4 - Road 21.8 miles
May 4 - Trail 7.8 miles (Saturday was International Women's Mountain Bike Day so I had to hit the trails!)
    May 10 - 8.1 Trail
    May 11 - 13.9 Road
    May 12 - 6.2 Trail
May 14 - 8 miles trail (guestimating because I forgot my phone so no Strava)
    May 15 - 11 miles trail
    May 26 - 5 miles trail

Rain is finally letting up but the trails need to dry out

    Last week 48.0 miles, 4:02.
    May total 179.2 miles, 15:10.

I'm finally starting to see some real improvement. This past week I did a 30 mile ride in the same time I did 25 miles the previous week. I'm feeling stronger and more stable, and a lot less intimidated by cars coming up behind me (which is quite the problem for a road cyclist, yes?) Of my 30-mile long ride, roughly 20 miles was on real roads, and 10 on a paved trail. I've finally built up enough endurance that I can start doing some of the more fun rides, yay!

That's some pretty darn good progress for only two months of cycling after a decade-long hiatus, 😁😁😁 especially considering that 6 months ago I was seriously overweight. (Apparently New Year's resolutions can be quite effective if you're sufficiently feed up with the status quo.)

Then a prolonged break but a short trip to the gym clocked up 2,000 miles for the year so far.

Did a solo gran fondo from home today, 64 miles / 104km.

Not good ... I think we all have months like that from time to time. Here's to a better June!

Thank you - I'll drink to that. :drinker:

Great to see you and your husband back on the bikes. And thank you for keeping the thread running.

My Osteopath assures me that by middle of next week I'll be on the mend - hope he's right (usually is).
