Hello! I’m going to give intermittent fasting a go. My goal is a 16 hour fast. Do any of you know if 1 TBSP of sugar free creamer in my coffee would have an impact on anything?

It shouldn't make a difference. Intermittent fasting only works when it creates a calorie deficit. As long as your coffee creamer doesn't cause you to consume calories over the deficit, you should still lose weight.12

Intermittent fasting is primarily a behavioral strategy, not a physical one.14

We have no way of knowing what it is going to do inside of YOU.
Just do an n=1 study on yourself with and without that food item if you wish. Read the ingredients and look at their impact reported by others.9 -

As @HollyPFlax says calories are the only factor in gaining, maintaining, or losing weight. Extending your normal fasting time can help some people by giving them larger meals when they do eat. It is not for everyone so you should not force yourself to stick with something that makes you miserable or has a negative impact on work, exercise, or play activities.
The 16 hour fast is a guideline not a rule. If, after a period of time, you think this is beneficial for you, you should make your own rules and be in charge of your eating.

A n=1 self study could "prove" that sleeping with a window open burns more fat.
If not careful this is a good way to fall into the trap of believing myths, including myths about yourself. I have fallen victim to this in the past myself.

intermittent fasting isn't "magic", weight loss comes down to energy balance. so regardless if that breaks the rules of IF or not, doesn't really matter as it comes down to overall calories anyway. IF is just one of hundreds of strategies to reach a deficit.7

Go watch "2 Fit Docs" on YouTube". They did a complete blood glucose testing on creamer, sugar substitutes, etc. in their coffee at 30 minute intervals, pretty interesting!!

I think I may know someone who fell into the myth trap besides you.
In the end it is only our n=1 results that count for our own personal health.

Not really. Results are results. Interpreting the cause of the results is subject to bias and faulty assumptions. If you have positive results I am not sure there is anything wrong with believing that leaving the window open at night caused them. That is UNLESS you start trying to convince others to believe in your theories that have not been properly vetted with a true scientific process.

I think it all depends on your reasons for practicing intermittent fasting...
Speaking from personal experience only... your SF creamer could have an effect on your insulin levels. I prefer to do a "clean" fast when practicing intermittent fasting. For me personally, I find that if I consume anything sweetened (artificially or otherwise) it makes me hungrier and makes the fast more difficult. Up until 30 days ago, I would have never thought I could drink my coffee black. Now it seems weird to me that I ever put anything in my coffee.
You may want to check out "The Obesity Code" or "The Diabetes Code". I am not suggesting that either is the holy grail for understanding fasting and how insulin resistance affects the body, but I did have a lot of "Aha" moments while reading.
I am also practicing 16:8 fasting and working towards extending my fasting window to 18 - 20 hours. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.
