I have just sent off an application for the RAf! I am so nervous, excited and scared! Anybody a member and can spare any inside info as to what it is like, any good/bad experiences?

I really want this job and want to know more!

  • Hi,

I'm Ex RAF, served for 9 years and my Husband is still in.

Have you applied for officer or Junior rank? I was a Cpl when i left so can tell you about training at Halton and my husband is a Flt Lt. He's actually an instructor at RAF Cranwell Officer College and we live there.

I really enjoyed my time in and did a lot. I obviously travelled to some bad places in the world but also went on expeditions and learnt to ski, scuba dive etc ,all paid for by the RAF.

You'll meet some amazing people and make friendships like you'll never have in civi land.

During training the best advice i can give is 'Play the game' . Instructors will shout, make you run and you'll be up at stupid o'clock ironing and polishing your boots. Dont answer back, play the game, its not personal, they're only doing their job and remember it doesn't last forever. Soon you'll be out in the real RAF and it's nothing like training.

    Any questions, don't hesitate.

    Sarah
