Chocolate addiction

Hi I have been buying chocolate everyday and I can’t seem to stop myself eating it. Does anyone know what I can do to stop myself eating chocolate? I have lost 51kgs and I’m trying to maintain my weight. I’m worried that me eating one chocolate bar to sometimes a block of chocolate in one day is going to ruin my weight loss success and I’ll gain weight. Please help

You gain weight if you are in a calorie surplus, not from eating any particular food. It’s fine to eat a portion of chocolate that fits into your calorie goal. You may find it easier to control your eating if you buy individually wrapped chocolates instead of bars. However, if you’re not able to stop with just the amount you intended to eat, you might choose to not buy it in the first place.7

I used to think I was addicted to chocolate. Any "diet" that was going to force me to give it up was doomed to fail... hence I didn't even bother, and just stayed fat until I was introduced to MFP. Learning that I could still fit in the things I love to eat AND lose weight was the best gift ever!
What really helped me was to buy the darkest chocolate I could stand (85-90%), and just have one or two squares each night. It was something to look forward to at the end of the day! At first I had to get my husband to hide the bar in his office so I wouldn't eat more, but eventually I could be trusted. I gradually cut down the number of days per week I had a square, as my weight dropped and my calorie allowance got lower. These days, I can have a bar of chocolate in the fridge and not "need" to eat some every day. I have to say that I never, ever thought that would happen when I started this weight loss thing.
I know some people don't like dark chocolate, but if you can stand it, it's worth a try. I find that if I have a lower cocoa brand, like 72%, I end up craving it because it's that much sweeter and I find it really difficult to just stick to my one or two squares. It has to be at least 82% for it to work, for me! (The idea of individually-wrapped pieces is good too. )9 -

i eat chocolate 1-2x a day. about every single day. i just ensure it fits in my calorie goals and am very careful about portion creep.5

I am a chocolate lover myself!!! I find a way to have some form of it every single day!! As long as you count it in you daily calories or macros, you can include it without any guilt. I have been tracking my macros and practicing a "Flexible Diet" for about a year and half. I have found so much freedom with that, and when you allow yourself to have some of the foods/treats you love while staying within your intake range, you will find the obsession and hard cravings may be less or even non-existent. Also...if I am cutting and can't really make room for my favorite dark chocolate, I have found that NuNatural Dutch Processed cocoa, mixed with a little PB Fit...put enough water to make it spreadable and put it on a rice cake and top with a favorite fruit like strawberries!!! Soooooo yum!!! If you need it a little sweeter add a drop of stevia or Walden Farms Fat free pancake syrup...but just a couple drops...doesn't take much!!! Hang in there...You've got this!! Chocolate is the bomb...and you don't need to break up with it!!!0 -
Recondition your mind to think of sugar as poison, like tobacco. I don't know if you're a smoker, but if not, look at and think of chocolate or sugar like cigarettes, just don't buy it, if you do buy it, bin it, and certainly don't have it in the house. If it is in the house, throw it out! I'd recommend going cold turkey on sugar for a month, it might help recondition your attitude to it and break the habit. It helped me (a sugar addict). I still eat some sugar don't get me wrong, but I have it more under control now, and I've gone from 190 pounds to 130 pounds, mainly by reducing sugar.
51kgs is amazing though, so you're doing pretty well without help!22 -
I really like chocolate. So, I eat it. But, it is calorie dense so it needs to fit in to the daily goal. When I end the day with lots of calories left, its an oz of dark chocolate chunk. Not those odious Lindoor or Godivas which always are unsatisfying to me.3

I've found that milk chocolate does not scratch my chocolate itch at all, so I am also voting for dark chocolate, as dark as you can stand it. Eat it as slowly as possible - don't chew - take tiny bites and let them dissolve in your mouth.
Chocolate chips work very well for this, but I haven't seen them darker than 60% in regular stores. I do like Ghirardelli 60% chips. I weigh out @ 50 calories worth of chocolate chips, put the bag away, and it takes me so long to eat them that my itch is well satisfied by the time I am done.
Also - are you exercising? I am less prone to seek "happy hormones" from food if I am getting it from exercise.4 -
Exercise is key for me.

I do 3-7 times a week a 90 minute brisk walk and walk everywhere and ride my push bike sometimes and I use the ab swing a few times a week0
