Back Hyperextension Machine

My trainer made me do 300 reps of the back hyperextension machine while holding a 25 pound weight. I thought it seemed a bit excessive and wanted to see other opinions.

Seems excessive but maybe there was a reason. Did you ask your trainer why?

You should ask your trainer. I agree that seems excessive.

My first thought is that this is irresponsible and serves no purpose apart from to put you at risk of injury or unnecessary soreness. I'd challenge the trainer next time and ask for a good reason as to why they made you do this. I'm guessing this is not Navy SEALS training so he/she needs to back off. I'd actually question the trainers mindset personally.

What are your goal(s) for training and when and how many did the trainer have you do previously?

I'm cringing. DOMS in the lower back are a special kind of pain.

300 reps of anything seems excessive to me.

+1 on excessive!!! Unless you are already conditioned for that kind of volume? But if you are just starting it's asking for problems.
