"Why Does Your Stomach Move Like That?"

Hi everyone -
Two years and 25 pounds lighter, my then-4-year old asked me "Daddy, why does your stomach move like that?" This has stuck with me over time and was never the catalyst for change that it should have been. It’s part of the reason I’m here now.
Another big reason as to why I’m here is because I can no longer run due to leg pain (long story short). I’m pretty sure that if I saw a doctor about the pain, then on the top of my to-do list would be “lose some weight.” So, I’ve decided to save a copay and a trip to the office and try to knock that out first.
My starting weight as of this past Sunday was 230 pounds (5’8”). Leg pain persisted when I was a svelte 210 and 220 pounds. So, goal #1 is to drop 30 and see if the pain still hangs around once I’m under 200.
Easy enough, right?
The biggest obstacle/opportunity that I have is night time binge eating. Hopefully calorie counting will be a contributing factor in knocking out this issue.
I appreciate anyone who wants to be friends here.
Other noteworthy stuff about me: I’m 36 with a wife and two sons. I’m a bean counter by trade, but I don’t do taxes so there’s no traditional “busy time” of the year for me. I’m a low-rent blogger and I help run a nonprofit.

You can do this! I was in a similar situation and I took baby steps by cganging my food intake. I then started with light stretching, walking and swimming. I constantly will listen to my body. Today for example, I'm changing up my routine and shocking my body with a variety of exercises. Good luck on your journey.0

I have a 4 year old, and she says the same thing.
I always try to be body positive around her, but she is obsessed with my stomach.
She even had nightmares about hers being as big and woke me up crying.
"Why does it move like that...look like that? Does it hurt? Is mine going to be that big?"
It makes me feel like a monster. 😞
I showed her photos of when I was fit, and she calmed down some. Definitely makes me want to change though.
Also, I used to be an avid runner.
I started my day with a 6-8 mile run instead of coffee.
I have noticed that weight gain has caused pain in my leg, like it's splintering, when I run now.
I was told by my physician it's basically a combination of my weight and weak ankles/poor ankle posture while running.
Definitely doesn't mean that's what's going on with you, but seemed like noteworthy input.1 -

It definitely sounds like your daughter goes harder in the paint than my kid. I think you're handling it well if you're trying to be body positive, though.
Without meaning to be too dramatic: my calf feels like someone took an ax to the back of it. Almost like it's splitting. Maybe I tore it at some point?
Do you want to get back in to running at the same level that you were at previously?0 -

Maybe try to save some of your calorie allowance for a nighttime snack? Or, if you happen to be one of those people who doesn't need breakfast, you can delay eating until lunchtime and have more calories to play with later in the day. Try a few different things to see what works best for you personally.
Also, here's the obligatory link to getting started...

Have at it, and good luck!0
