Plant Based Diet

Is anyone else on a plant based/single ingredient diet? How are your macros looking? I seem to be getting way more fiber and carbs than MFP says I should. Should I be concerned? I’ve been transitioning for a month now, cutting out here and there. However, now that I am all in, I am having a hard time reaching my calorie minimums. I am stuffed all day long. I’m loving what I’m eating but I’m uncomfortably full. I feel great, no issues. Just curious. Also, if anyone else is making the transition, feel free to add me.

May I ask what you mean by single ingredient?

I have to make an effort to remember to eat and am consistently full. I am able to eat enough protein and calories. I am just struggling when I switch between losing and maintaining. *I switch back and forth every few weeks. By single ingredient, I mean that I make a choice to eat single ingredient foods. A potato is a potato and has one incredient vs potato chips in a bag that have 10+ ingredients. I simply make everything from scratch. No meats, no dairy, no excessive processing and no oils. Sometimes I add a small amount of Parmesan 😂. Just looking for advice from someone who eats similarly and has possibly found a better balance. Or someone who knows more about nutrition and can give insight into whether this is okay long term or could offer some alternatives that I haven’t found yet.

You should look for a registered dietitian to review your nutritional goals with you. In the meantime do make sure you get enough fat and protein in your diet.

MFP's fiber goal is a minimum. I think it's desirable to get more than that and most on a mostly whole foods plant based diet will. I don't think carb percentage matters, but being too low in fat and protein can, so I'd make sure you have some good sources of healthy fats and sources of protein in the diet.

I eat mostly from whole foods (we just call it cooking from scratch) and mostly plant-based lately. When I was experimenting with being more strictly plant-based I logged at Cron to make sure my nutrients were on point (and supplemented with DLA/EPA and B12, which I think people who are strictly 100% plant based need).
