Help with Hunger

I am experiencing major hunger pangs in the afternoon. Feel just ravinous and I hate it because it takes away my concentration from work. I am already pushing my calorie intake for the day. Am I just supposed to fight through it or is that my body telling me to eat?

What are you eating up until those hunger pangs?

How much water do you drink?

How long have you been dieting, and how long have you been having this problem?

How many lbs per week are you trying to lose, and how much weight in total do you need to lose?

Are you eating any of your exercise calories?

I am experiencing the same thing. I recently plateaued so I adjusted my intake goals and boy I have been starving in the afternoons almost uncontrollably. Definitely not a way I wanted to live, tried to stick with it for a couple weeks nothing improved so I switched it back as of today and the extra Protein and 100 Calories has made the difference I am feeling much better and am again under my calorie goal so I think maybe for me it was a Protein issue, maybe you need more?

I’d like to lose 2 lbs a week. I am eating approx 1300 calories a day. Looking to lose at least more 20lbs. Down 17ish.

What foods are you eating from the time you get up?

For that small amount of weight to goal, 2 lbs per week is too aggressive.

Great insight. I’m drinking about 20-30 oz of water per day. Not enough. Been working at it for 2 months. Exercise calories are eaten 😊

I have a mixture of carbs, protein and fats. Unfortunately more carbs than protein.

I have a goal for taking a test for my employment which requires being aggressive so time is not on my side.

Losing that fast with so little to lose is why you're hungry. Your body needs fuel. Assuming your goal weight is in the healthy weight range for your height, you are doing yourself no favors in the long run losing the weight that quickly, and will probably lose some muscle in the process, so if there's anything you can do to avoid crash dieting, that's what I would do. If you have no choice, make sure you are hitting your protein, fat, and fiber goals and try playing with your meal timing and portions to move more calories, and more filling calories, around the time you get hungriest.

Is 1300 what you are eating before eating exercise calories back? Or are you only eating 1300, even after exercise?

    I see 2 choices here:
    1. Continue to aim for the 2lbs per week deficit, continue eating 1300 cals per day and accept the hunger pangs and that you'll be miserable. (Also accept that there's a pretty good chance that it'll all get to be too much and you'll "fall off the wagon")

    2. Aim for 1lb per week, increase your calorie intake to 1550 cal per day. No more struggling, no more hunger pangs. You'll no doubt be much happier (and healthier) and since you'll no longer be finding it tough you'll more than likely keep your weight loss going.

    G'luck

Hopefully, it's just one of those stupid work place weight challenges.

In addition to all the other great insight here from others, the only other thing I could add is are you getting enough sleep? I know when I don't sleep enough or very well I am extra hungry.

I definitely second the suggestion about playing around with your macros. Some people feel more satisfied with fat, or protein, or carbs. So adjusting the levels for maybe a week at a time might help you understand which macros help you feel fuller longer.
