Cushioned shoes?

I've been reading the message boards about shoes because I have bad knees/Bone Spurs. My Dr. has told me I need a lot of cushion because of this, and being about 70lbs overweight. I know everyone says go get fitted for shoes which I hope to do soon, but the nearest place that does it is 2 1/2hrs(one way) from where I live. My town is very small and surrounded by very small towns. I have found a Fleet feet within a 30 min drive, but for some reason mine doesn't do the fittings. I have took the Mizuno fit quiz online and it shows I'm a neutral. Considering that which shoe do you all feel is the most cushioned shoe for someone with a Neutral gait? When I finally get to get fitted if I find out differently I will then select a different shoe, but until then what do you all think? Thanks in advance!

Is walking pain free worth 5 hours of your time?
If it was me, I'd just go into any of the shops and try to find the guy/or girl that looks the fittest, chances are they may just know anyways. Get whatever, then go make the drive when you can.0 -
Try the dr schol's insert for knee support. I got the one for back pain and it helped. If you wear them a lot they'll wear out soon but their only 10 bucks and I think you still get a coupon at their website.0

I am currently about 50lbs overweight and slightly overpronate while running. I went and got fitted - I wouldn't have guessed the overpronation thing. It's WELL worth the drive to see someone, imho. You really REALLY don't want to end up injured. I also ended up in shoes a size LARGER than I'd have expected - you need more toe room in runners than everyday shoes.
As far as cushioning, I ended up with Saucony Hurricane 12s. I believe I got a decent deal on them because they are coming out with the next series of them soon-ish. I need stability control and cushioning with my weight and this shoe gives me that.
Saucony are well known for excellent cushioning, very comfy and wonderful the very first time you put them on. There's no period of breaking them in, they just start off feeling like you're walking on air. Big Saucony fan.0 -
I have Dr Scholl trainers wirh gel cushions built in, and bought them on line for £15, really comfortable, for walking, I don't fun as yet, knee and massive boobs problems  but find these trainers really comfy..
Good luck with your exercise, and i agree with other MFP'r i'd make a bee line for the fittest looking person in the store and ask their advise too...0 -
It is likely that you will over-pronate if you are overweight. Get someone to watch you run (or walk) and see if you are neutral. A treadmill and a video camera could be useful.
Edit: I just did the online quiz too. It gave me the wrong result. It said I needed neutral shoes when I definitely need control shoes.0 -
i've had similar experiences. I have purchased so many pair of shoes that felt good in the store but killed me when I wore them for an hour or more. The most comfortable thats ive found for all day use, especially on concrete, are the brands Easy Spirit or Born. My foot doctor said to try to bend a shore in half on the top. You should not be able to bend them more than an inch or two or you won't have the arch support you need. I recently tried on about 50 pair of athletic shoes trying to find some that would with stand an hour on the treadmill each day at a brisk pace. I even bought a completed took them to them gym to try out and found that one caused knee pain within 15 minutes on the treadmill and the other was heavy and bruised my large toe due to not enough room in what they call the toe box. I think I finally found a winner though :-) They are New Balance WX505GP. They are light weight, not chunky, come in wide sizes, and reasonably inexpensive at around $50. And the best test is that for the past three days, I have worn them for an hour each morning on the treadmill for an hour at a brisk pace without my feet, knees, or back complaining!!! Good luck!0

This sounded like you were stuffing your boobs into your trainers lol!
Sprts bras are for boobs, support trainers for feet, try not to get them mixed up as it is a potential health hazzard, and you may trip up!
P.S. I love my "Fit Flop" boots, sandals and trainers, they have wobbleboard technology. :laugh:0
