Want my waist back!

Hi guys,

I'm feeling really encouraged this morning after measuring myself - I've dropped 3 inches around the waist and one inch around the chest and hips! I'm so pleased about losing inches around the waist, as this is the part I'm trying to target! I know that you have to lose fat everywhere and it's difficult to target one place, but I have been doing strengthening exercises on my abdominals daily in addition to my cardio, and I've been trying to eat more fibre.

Does anyone have any other tips for shedding inches round the waist? I'll try anything short of pills and silly exercise machines!!!

Thanks guys!

    Congrats on the losses delightedin!

Unfortunately there is no way to "target" weight loss, I.E. you can't specifically focus where fat will come off. Your body burns calories in FIFO (first in first out) so the newest fat will come off first. The only thing you can do is target muscle groups so that when the fat does come off, the area will look good. Plus building muscle always helps with fat loss becuase muscle burns calories, so more muscle = more calories burning.
  • Yeah that's what I thought. :) Just need to keep up what I'm doing I guess!! Must be doing it right if it's working!

If you're trying to target your waist I do suggest that you consider using an exercise ball to do sit ups, side bends, back bends to target the core muscle groups in this area (abs, lats and back) and in this way you will complement the weight loss with muscle toning that will give you the waist you're looking for again.
  • Thanks rheston, good advice :-)
  • Congrats to you on your success!! You are doing so well. I second what rheston says. I need to start doing the same thing. And keep up the good work that you are already doing!!:drinker:

Weight train for your upper body, and include exercises for your shoulder. If your shoulders are bigger, your waist looks smaller.

(this is based on my experience. My waist is the same size now as it was four months ago when I added strength training. . . only now people exclaim "your waist is so tiny!" because my shoulders are a bit bigger.)

And, belly dancing will target your waist, and you'll feel really good doing it. There are a lot of fun DVDs out there.

  • Question how long did it take you to take the 3 inches off your waist? I have a 32 inch waist and want to cry over it. I am trying to get down to 28 inch waist or even better 26. I do 50 sit ups 5 times a week and use the wheel (thing that hurts like crap) I can only do 3. I also do cardio twice a week on tuesday and thursdays, 20 minutes running on the treadmil at 5.5-7.0 mph. I switch it up so I want get bored when I run. I also do intense aerobics on Monday, Wed, and Fri. We focus alot on abs in this class on Wed. Now I just started working out it will be 3 weeks on Fri. On tuesday and thursday I also lift weight. I have only lost 1 pound unfortunately. I dont like counting calories because I dont see the purpose I just try to watch what I eat . I know to have patience but dang 1 pound. I would think I would have at least lost 2.
