Is my goal weigh obtainable?

Well...my goal weight is 140-145 and how can I be sure this is obtainable. I am 5'5 and when I was 160 I was still overweight. (I was 19 at that weight). My UGW is 130 and I would love to be there! But, I just don't know. I grew up around a mother who was always tellingme I was big boned and my weight was normal I was 17 and weighed 180 and knew I had weight to loose because of the fat on my belly and the way it stuck out. It kind of gave me a bloated look all the time. ( My mother was always quite small, she was 5'2 and at her lowest was about 98 and had this amazing hour glass figure.) I feel compared to her everyone is big boned.....so it's hard for me to figure out what a good weight for me is and I've always struggled with it...I weighed 120 at 11 and I was horrified when that happened and I had no idea what to do about it. So, I just want to know if 140 is truly obtainable for me. I just keep hearing people around me talk about how they've accepted their fat andd they can't loose weight. There is one woman I know who runs and still has a few pounds left to go and it doesn't seem to be budging. There is only one woman I know that is a true success, she lost 80lbs doing weight watchers and working out A LOT. She looks AMAZING and wears a size small....she couldn't be happier. I would love to wear a size medium again! And have my "skinny" clothes to be too big.

You will look beautiful at 145! I also think you would be fine at 160. You've got some height - lucky girl!0

I'm 5'5" and 140 is my goal weight too. I feel the most comfortable there.
Good luck to you! :drinker:0 -
it all comes down to how bad you want it my goal at first was 100lbs ive almost hit that i think my ultimate goal weight is gonna be 107 total so its 10 less than you I feel its obtainable if you want it.0

Well the low end for your weight range is 118lbs, so it's definitely doable.
Just focus on small goals right now (which you seem to be doing from your signature) Don't look at the end because it's SCARY sometimes how much you need to lose. Just focus on your next mini-goal.0 -
it is absolutely doable. Not absolutely necessary, and I bet you would look great at 160. My mom is 5'6 and is at her heaviest now at 59 years old, she weights 150 pounds. The real decision will be if you get to 160 and think, heck yeah this is exactly where I want to me. If not then keep working. Either way it only matters if you are comfortable when you get there.0

I think so! Keep at it.0

I am also "big boned" love that phrase, I am 5'4.5 (I love above you said you have height I always thought I was short go us lol) and I also have a tiny mother I wonder where I came from lol....when I was 125 in high school I looked like I had an eating disorder ...I have found that when I weighed between 135-145 I felt comfortable but that was many years ago I hope to get back to 135ish but I think your goal is attainable but I also agree that we should all focus on a mini goal meaning just focus on that 5lbs loss mark etc. that way we don't get discouraged from feeling that we are so far away from a goal....also sometimes the scale doesn't matter you could be at 160lb full of muscle and tones and wear the same clothing of a girl that is skinny fat that weighs 130 ...don't get hung up on the number get hung up on what makes you happy0

I don't say this to push a particular diet on you, but if you go to www.dukandiet.com, there is a short questionnaire to arrive you at your True Weight. That may give you a good idea. It asks you questions about your highest weight, lowest weight, bone mass, etc. Mine was spot-on.0

What makes the difference whether a particular weight is attainable? Instead of focusing on what you don't know, focus on what you do know:
1. You are not at your goal weight now.
2. You can reach your goal weight with some work.
Take that knowledge and start/keep working. Be honest with yourself over the course of the journey. Whether your goal weight turns out to be 140, 130, 120...you'll know when you get there. And you'll be happy.0 -
My mini goal is 10 lbs from where I am now. I always get stuck when I get to a point of breaking out of a number....I'm 253 and it's hard to get to 248. It always happens like that and I'm not sure why.0

Go for it! No one has to accept fat!
FYI, been at this for almost 3 yrs, started at 287, am at 178 currently. I still view 150 as totally achievable. I'm just not going to let myself get caught up in the 'I have to be there by X date.'
But don't let the numbers totally guide you - go for what feels 'right' when you get close. We DO have different frames and looks and you may feel/look better at a higher or lower end of your weight range. You'll have to decide when you get there.0 -
Ignore the people who have accepted their fat. They will only bring you down. If they want to live that way that's their business but it's certainly not healthy!
It's definitely doable. It won't happen overnight and will require some work but you can do itOh and big bones don't mean the person has to be overweight!

I didn't like the weight it gave me...it told me 167 was my true weight. I've been 160 before and I didn't like it then, I was still chunky. I'm shooting for 150 and deciding from there. But for right now I am shooting for that 10lb loss.0
