Chafing Help!!

Options
Okay so my sports bra always leaves a line from the top edge on my skin after long runs, even with body glide. This morning I put body glide on under my sports bra and went out for a 22 mile run and now I have WELTS!! I use sports bras from Target. Does anyone have any suggestions because I have the full marathon in three weeks and I really am not very appreciative of these welts... Body Glide works perfectly everywhere else, I don't get it.

the nice soft super elestic ones from target? (that come in cool colors?) lol... those are the only sports bras that don't do that to me! Maybe if you are wearing a regular bra under your sports bra that is the problem (i know you probably don't, but i've done it, and it hurts!)... but I donno! sounds painful =[ !

I used to work outside for a living and had that problem. I used gold bond powder before putting my sports bra on That will also help if have any heat rash. i also began wearing mean A shirts under my sports bra to keep them from rubbing. take a shower as soon after your work out as you can. You may wish to put on more gold bond before you put on your regular bra if your skin is already chaffed. Good luck

Target is like a department store? America confuses me.

I buy Nike brand sports bras, they are padded which helps keep the shape after I noticed my old sports bra wasn't supporting the skin at the top and it was getting all stretched. I have 34DDs

What size boobs do you have? I'm a 36DD and the only thing that keeps me in place so that I don't rub and chafe are the Enell Brand bras.

I'm pretty sure the Under Armour ones would work too but I'm too chicken to switch when something is working for me.

    22 miles! :O

Go to a running shop and look at their sports bras, as the ones you're getting may not be very high impact and in general running shops stock bras suited for running particularly. Also get fitted for a bra if you haven't already so you know what size you ought to be getting. If you're chafing, is the band size too big?

If you DO buy a new sports bra, make sure you've got used to it before your marathon. I would expect running 26.2 miles in an uncomfortable bra would be torture at best.

Nasty as this sounds, when you're running you do have an adrenaline rush (especially during a race), so you won't feel that much pain if anything goes wrong. At least proportional to the pain you should feel if you were not running. Not particularly pleasant to deal with afterwards but at least you can complete the race.

Good luck! I'm just doing 13.1 miles and can't imagine managing more than that at the moment :)

    Edit:

Just noticed you mentioned your band size 36D. For your current height and weight the band size seems quite high? Unless you have a huge rib cage (some people do) you should try on a 34DD just to see if it fits better...

    Good luck again :)

Thanks! I was thinking about going to a running store to see if they have any advice. It might be because I just have a general "Medium" size sports bra and not one specific to my cup size. Hmmm...

I have 3 weeks left before the marathon to try stuff out :) I def hear you on the adrenaline rush, I didn't notice anything until after I finished running.

Half marathon is definitely very impressive! I remember when I finished my first half marathon I felt like I could do anything! Keep up the good work :D

OUCH! You poor thing. I usually just wear two at once but that wouldn't do anything to help you. I hope you post again if you find something helpful.

Below is exactly what I would suggest. A good sports bra is like a good piece of workout equipment!! If you are running long distances you wouldn't consider a cheap pair of shoes, I wouldn't do it for a sports bra either. The cheaper ones are good for low impact exercise. Also, you can purchase "Glide" at most running stores. It's designed to prevent chafing and it doesn't stain your clothes. Happy Running!!

try the Ta Ta Tamer from www.lululemon.com, they are awesome for women who are in the "D" range for bra's I'm a DDD and I've had the hardest time finding a reg. bra not to mention a sprots bra that would stay in place and not chafe. The Ta Ta Tamer has been wonderfully perfect me!! Good luck in your finds.

Nike sports bra.... They give the best support and do not loose their shape. They actually make you look smaller in your entire chest.

Nike costs more but they are worth every penny! My husband says good and cheap do not go together!

I saw a girl doing that at the gym the other day...a legit bra with a sports bra on top. and it wasn't like her boobs were really big or anything. That made me wonder if she was doing it because it was more attractive to guys or something?? whatever, i'm there to work out not hit on people!

I second (..or 3rd, or 4th, or whatever number it's up to now) Under Armor bras! Make sure they are HIGH IMPACT!

BUT, I will say that if you have a good local running store, that would be a good place to start. As a previous poster suggested, maybe your bra isn't fitting properly anymore? I had to buy all new bras and panties after losing 5 pounds, then bras 15 pounds later...and I need to buy new bras again...6 pounds after that. I'm thinking your local running store can fit you and make suggestions based on your measurements. Good luck!

If it hasn't been suggested already, get sized to make sure you're wearing the right size bra. 89% or so of us women are wearing the wrong size! I get my sports bras from Nordstrom because I like their customer service and their bra fit specialists are super helpful. They also informed me that women should be re-sized every 6 months!

It aint easy (or cheap!) being a girl! :)
