Exercises?

Can anyone recommend any exercises to strengthen lower back ? I have just joined the gym after not exercising for years, other than walking and have some low back pain.

I also seam to have clicky hips which can cramp when lifted to the side so if anyone can recommend specific exercises to help that too I would very much appreciate it 🙂

    Back pain could be a lot of things and not always fixable with back exercises. It could incorrect form, doing too much too soon, not contracting your abs properly, or the wrong exercises. What specifically is your strength and cardio routine?

    As someone who's had multiple joint replacement surgeries, your clicky hips sounds like arthritis to me. My knees and hips made that type of sound and it ended up being osteoarthritis.

    Under whatever section to use what your gym has. Under bodyweight perhaps for starters.

    And sometimes the lower back hurts because your core and front aren't strong giving bad posture.

    I only just went today for the first time. I plan on doing a a mix of cardio on the machines and weights to strengthen as well. I want to work up to doing fitness classes. I have had low back pain on and of for 5 years now after having my kids.

    I am a huge fan of yoga, especially for pain relief. I lift and do cardio as well, but yoga keeps my muscles flexible and is a huge proponent in my fitness routine. Hip/lower back pain can be debilitating but unfortunately is very common when lifting. Nonetheless, don't let it discourage you from going to the gym and getting a good workout in.     Does your gym have recumbent bikes? Won't fix your hips, but it's probably a form of cardio that won't irritate them either.
