I am new to this website. I am trying my planned workouts but do we track normal activities that expand calories such as housework, doing dishes, walking to get the mail, etc?

Welcome to MFP! Yes you can keep track of cleaning under exercise. Look for different types of cleaning under the exercise tab. Please send me a friend request if you like:flowerforyou:0

I bet you'll get a variety of answer on this one. I only add activities that are truly above and beyond the norm for me. So doing dishes no. Yard work yes, Walking to the mall probably. Some of your daily activities should have been factored in when you established your activity level.0

If it is an everyday activity that you usualy do, then I say no, don`t bother tracking it.
If you are going crazy with vigorously cleaning the house and you know you are burning more calories than normal with cleaning, then yes.0 -
I don't monitor anything I HAVE to do to maintain my house. I even clean other houses during the week and do not count that as exercise either. The only excercise I calculate is excercise I perform. Such as, my exercise DVD's, walking, running, & elliptical training. Everything else I burn is just bonus0

I'm with kje, only log the exercises that are different from what you normally do, otherwise you'll end up logging a million calories that you'll then eat and then you wont lose weight. Walking to the shops, if you walk a bit quicker than usual, count for sure, but I have never counted cooking the dinner even though that is also on the mfp list. This site really works but you need to be a bit sensible about it. :laugh:0

I count those things because they are difficult for me to do. As I continue to build strength I will probably drop them from my diary. 3 yrs ago I couldn't make it to the end of my driveway so I am getting there!0

I say it depends on your weight and your activity level. Im obese, gettin up to pee burns calories so i do log cleaning. I also have my MFP activity level set at sedentary so it doesnt count on normal day to day activities such as cleaning. Granted, i dont eat back these calories, but i still count them.0
