How do you stay healthy when your braces have just been tightened?

All you can eat are breads and potatoes. Thoughts?

When I did invisalign and had to get new trays (so painful), I would subsist off soups. Mmmm, tomato soup. And soft stuff. Yeah, I love potatoes, but I also enjoy creamed corn, steamed carrots, etc. I didn't really eat a lot of bread -- I found it painful to eat. XD
Soups!! There's all sorts of healthy, smooth soups out there!
Good luck!1 -
Yogurt! I have Invisalign and new trays make my mouth sore. I stay away from most raw veg during that time, definitely no carrots! You can always eat breads and potatoes as long as you watch your calories. Chicken and fish are options too. Soup and cooked veg are healthy choices.0

my mouth typically only hurt for the first day or so after being tightening - one or two days of soft food won't hurt you as long as you are in your calorie goals1

Staying healthy...eating healthy, whatever is something that happens on a continuum over time...and to that end, you also need to look at your diet on the whole and not just independent food items. When I had braces, it only hurt for a day or two...not really material to the bigger picture.
Also, there's nothing unhealthy about breads and potatoes...look up the nutritional profile of a potato...it's a powerhouse.1 -
Was it your first time getting them tightened? For me the first one sucked, but the rest weren't that bad. I was young though, 13-14, so maybe I bounced back from it easier.0

Just fit in anything you dont have to chew into your calorie goals. Since "healthy" is a subjective term I'm going to go with nutritionally balanced. Things that help you hit your macros and calorie goals.
Protiens- yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, ground meat, ice cream, milk, eggs, fish.
Fiber- oatmeal, adding flax or chia seeds to your foods, sweet potato, squash, quinoa, lentils, beans.
carbs- pasta that comes in bite sized pieces like macaroni, rice, potato,
That being said my staples when I had mine (age 18-22) were things that I either didn't have to chew at all or could lightly mush with my mouth. My teeth moved fast and were pretty painful. I lived on spaghetti-o's, mac & cheese, and ramen, lol.
Smoothies might not be a bad idea either so you can get your fruits and veggies in.0 -
Question for the Invisalign peeps. Did you eat with them in? I’m curious how they would function with like coffee and staining foods.0
