My estimated body fat is 26%. I currently weigh 58.5kg and my goal is 52kg. I feel like I will look the same after i get to my goal weight. Majority of fat is in my upper back and stomach. Should I do recomp or just cut?

How are you measuring bodyfat? What is your height?

I have a scale at home that estimates body fat and muscle mass. I’m gonna check again tomorrow at my gym. I’m 5.2ft

Those scales tend to be inaccurate. Based on your stats you could go either way it depends how you feel. I would probably cut a bit more then maintain and recomp.

Normally, one would consider recomp when s/he reaches his/her desired wt but still would like to change the BF/muscle ratio to reduce the former and increase the latter w/o any significant weight change.

I've tried it and had minor success doing it but it was a challenge. It's much easier to do a bulk/cut routine instead.

If you are striving for a specific BF level, the accuracy and tegularity of measurement is very important. Hydro and DEXA are the modt accurate and reliable.

When I was really into it, I was doing both quarterly for a couple of yrs while lifting heavy 3xs/wk and eating a very high protein diet. Gained some muscle mass but it hardly seemed worth the effort in retrospect.

I am 5', the difference between 58.5kg and 52kg is significant on a petite frame.

    I was 128lbs (58.1kg) last summer, I am 113 (51.25kg) this summer, there is a difference.

    I also weight train.

You're smack dab in the middle of healthy BMI, losing that much would definitely be visible.
If you've not been resistance training for a while, I'd going with recomp or even a very small deficit and see how it goes.

I’m another petite and agree with existingfish. 12-14 lbs can make an incredible difference at our size.

If I were you, I would start lifting now and continue with a small deficit ~250cals max and make sure you eatback your exercise cals, even the few you get for weight lifting.

Once you reach your goal weight, or maybe before if you are happy with how you are starting to look, feel, progress, switch to maintenance and continue lifting (recomp).

The scale is probably inaccurate, but can still give you an indication of your bodyfat % movement.

Mine said 31% to start and now says 19% at maintenance, nether are accurate but show a trend down. The ‘muscle’ reading, equally as inaccurate, has shown an upward trend. Not numbers I would live and die by, but they made me think things were moving in the right direction as I was losing.

    Cheers, h.
