So i suffer from depression and im taking Zoloft after being on and off a bunch of meds. This seems to have been workin ok for the past year. However ive been under an insane amount of stress lately and over the past year Ive gained roughly 40pounds. I cant seem to find motivation to eat right despite feeling like *kitten* in my body. Im really struggling, i feel like this bodys not mine. Im exercising with a pt twice a week but im too ashamed to admit i comfort eat. Does anyone please have any advice?

I think most people comfort eat to some degree. Especially on this site! It's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone has a coping mechanism, and some of them are far worse than food. Try to stop beating yourself up for wanting to do something that makes you feel better, because having those negative thoughts about yourself is going to make it worse.

Can you think of anything else that you find relaxing and stress relieving? Replacing your unhealthy coping mechanism with a healthy one is better than trying to do without anything at all. Your feelings have to go somewhere.

I can say this and hope it helps, been there. But really I got nothing. My whole program fell apart when I was taking Zoloft. But the meds worked.

A couple of thoughts now that I’m older, possibly wiser. My Doc said no research supported a weight gain- Zoloft link. Then I looked on the internet and loads of people were in the same boat. Is it just a Zoloft attitude at work?

What happened to me was my joints started hurting. First my knees- no cardio. Then my arms, elbows and everything else. No weight training. Again, my doc said unrelated to the meds. But my whole program fell apart. Pretty soon I was going out for breakfast a lot and hitting the McD drive through after work.

But I didn’t do calorie counting then. Do you keep a food diary? Crunch numbers using a food scale? The things that stand out for me were feeling disheartened over losing my gym routine and just not caring. That and gaining 25 lbs in about 8 months.

Consider calorie counting. It works. I’m hoping someone else may come to your thread with more insight. Not recalling any of this with fondness. But this- keep trying. Keep experimenting until you find a program that works. It’s there. I didn’t find it. You can. You just haven’t yet, but you can.

I gained over 100 pounds on one of my migraine medications in just a year. After they took me off the medication I downloaded this app and went from 260 lbs. to 174 lbs. Then the place I worked closed. I lost my job and my home, as a single mom. I tried to keep it together but I got really depressed, anxious, and the comfort eating started again. Now I am back up to 245 lbs. I just download the app again today and went for a 2 hour walk. But I have another medication change coming up and I am worried about what may happen. I feel shame for letting the depression and old habits get the best of me. I live with people who can eat anything they want and never gain a pound. They are verbally very supportive but their actions are drastically opposite with food preparation and takeout...or using my healthy food in their not so healthy recipes. I am just looking for some support, and don't know where to turn. This is my first time posting and putting my story out there. I wish you all the best and am here to be supportive in any way possible.
