Does anyone recommend a fresh meal delivery service that is not crazy expensive?

I've heard of a few members mention them. Hopefully, someone will see your post.
Do you not like to cook? Don't have time?0 -
I use Freshly and like them well enough. I don't think they're crazy expensive. Definitely cheaper than Postmates and Grubhub every night!0

I like ZenFoods in California, but they are crazy expensive.0

I am so lucky! There are two very close to my house. I have never had them deliver; I can just go in and pick out what looks good today. They are also less expensive than the big ones because they only deliver by car nearby. No major packing or postage. Is there anything close to you?0

I really like Sun Basket. The meals are not prepared so you do have to do the cooking but most only take 30 minutes and the quality is excellent. The meals have really helped me with my meal planning and calorie counting. So great to not have to worry about what I'm going to make that will stay within my plan. And my husband, who does not have to lose any weight, loves the meals. You can choose Keto, Paleo, Mediterranean, Diabetes Friendly, regular or any combination. The portion sizes are generous and I often only eat half and have the other half for lunch the next day. I find the cost extremely reasonable compared to shopping and buying all of the ingredients and then not using everything you've purchased. I love to find recipes and cook but I've enjoyed not having to think about what's for dinner that will help me on my weight loss journey using this service.0

I tried BlueApron and Hello Fresh. Both were good for a while, but I found the meals to get repetitive after a while (especially for the vegetarian options), and also found the quality of the ingredients slipping as time wore on. I do still use some of the recipes that were included on my own. The 30 minutes thing is a lie, though. There were plenty or recipes that might take 30 minutes if you were an expert chef with every utensil and pan immediately to hand, but for the average joe, it's more complex and time consuming. I dropped them a while back and haven't considered re-upping.0

I've found most of them to be pretty good. Of course, I've found a couple that I really didn't like--but they weren't bad, just not to my taste. I do usually add salt and maybe some hot sauce....but I do that for most foods. There are several that I like well enough to add to pretty much every week's rotation. Steak and peppercorn sauce, wild caught mahi-mahi, chicken livorno, the various pilafs and risottos they have, and the low country boil are all favorites that I order regularly.0 -
I use Purple Carrot for plant based meal delivery. Both my partner and I get 3 meals each giving us 6 for the week. It's not bad pricewise as most aren't... but I often factor in my time and convenience in that equation. I value my time enough that the time I save shopping and prepping makes it worthwhile for us.0

Ya, back in the day I used to enjoy watching Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals and found her recipes took longer than 30 minutes also.0 -
I used Freshly for awhile when I was still in CA (moving gave me my own kitchen and no more roommates, so cooking isn't a big deal anymore).
The price was reasonable, and I appreciated the built in portion control. Since I used it for both lunch and dinner most days (and I tend not to eat breakfast) I found some of their dishes to be pretty small so had to be selective.
Some of the meals were really good, many were okay, a few I didn't like at all. Biggest issue for me was the menu didn't change THAT much, and while the variety seemed great at first, after a couple months, I was starting to get tired of the (generally) same meals over and over and having to eat a lot of the "okay" meals to get some variety (I can't stand eating the same thing day in and day out). Sodium seemed pretty high, too.
If I were to do a meal delivery again I'd probably switch it up for something where the ingredients are prepped but I do the cooking.
I looked at a few other prepared options, but all the others I found at the time were pretty cost-prohibitive for me.0 -
I'm on my third week of Freshly now. I like it fairly well, and I searched online and found a good discount code for money off the first four weeks. Like othes say, though there's a lot of choices they don't change much. Most of the ones I've found are higher in fat than I'd like too. But I appreciate that they try to avoid much added sugar and the sodium isn't completely ridiculous.
I'll probably use them for a couple of months and then take a break to try something new for a while, then come back after six months or so.0
