Costco demo.

You go to Costco, while shopping you try some of the demo things. Yogurt, Chips, Salad dressing, Cheese etc.

Does anyone have a number they have generated for average calories for one sweep of the floor?

For instance, the Kirkland kettle chip demo was 23 calories. The frozen yogurt bar was 10. The yogurt was 5.

Putting in each and every demo, could be done. However I figured rounding up a 185 calories quick total and be done with it, might make more sense.

Any thoughts?

Not really an answer to your question, and not trying to be snarky here, but walking around costco is one of those times where you should exercise strong self discipline and not even pick up those sample foods. Keep your horse blinders on, pick up the stuff you need, try to dodge through the people lining up to eat those bite sized samplers, and get the hell outta there and make a nice meal at home.

ETA: Or, yeah, you can quick-add 100 or 200 and call it a day.

In my opinion, I'd say that you can go over 185 calories just at one stop, often they'll give out a large chunk of an egg roll, a mini cream puff, ... I absolutely log it one at a time - and skip lunch.

I had the mango salsa demo today, I asked if I could have mine without the tortilla chips she looked at me oddly and I told her I was counting calories she replied "where do you need to cut any calories off? " I said i've lost almost 100lbs since new years she's omg how!? I said by not eating the chips lol

Yeah I totally ignore the samples. I have never or will never have a sample from there.
( not meaning to be snarky either) But Its a HUGE pet peeve of mine that all the people have to leave their cart in the isles blocking everyone to get a little sample. Its a crazy enough store as it is!

But yeah 200ish calories about right depending on the day of samples :-)

I think you're all guessing way low... I think easily eat 500 calories if you do all the demos.. Today the had pulled pork, chicken fingers, jerkey, cheese and crackers, mac not cheese, yogurt, chocolate Peanut cluster, cheesecake, fruit and nut bars, mixed nuts, apple and orange juice etc it adds up even in sample sizes

Some days it is like a cocktail party and sometimes not, so I go for about 200 - 300 usually. My samples aren't usually that good/big. I NEVER wait for one, but if I can snag one as I go by, I'm in. I also avoid those sample people who are yelling over their samples or waving them around in the air for you. ( Retired nurse.....germs!!) At least now I see them with a clear plastic table over the top of them so they can't cough directly on them anymore! = D

Oh - I have to chime in. I was in Costco today, and I love to try some of the stuff they are sampling. They have so much organic and whole food it's fun to try the samples - that's how I got hooked on the Salmon Burgers. I don't log the samples unless there is chocolate involved - but I only get to costco twice a month, so don't think it's a big deal for me. If I was there 2-3 times a week, it might be different. I say just indulge! I do it when I go there and there's samples! just make sure you exercised that day to even it out.
  • kind of glad now that we dont have a costco, it is sad though when i see peoples diarys and they have yummy sounding things from trader joes and whole foods also, we have nothing like that, i have to grocery shop at wal-mart
