Sweating - Odd Question!!

Hi all,

I have an odd question for you all! Hope someone shares my experiences!

I noticed I have started sweating again which for me is a GOOD GOOD thing. When I was very fat and started working out I didn't sweat at all. Even when my HR was way up there at my max and even when my face was all red and I was extremely hot and bothered there was not a drop of sweat to be found. Eventually, when I got down to the weight I am now, and I was running/doing extreme workouts I started to sweat but only a little bit.

In the last week I've been working out and sweat has literally been dripping off me (disgusting I know), but for me this is great as it's a signal that there has been some kind of shift in my metabolism/how my body works.

Did anyone else notice this as part of losing weight? Anyone know why you don't sweat a lot at a high BMI/body fat %?

Thanks!
Ashleigh

I found that I start to sweat a lot quicker and more of it as I work out more. I believe it is my body becoming more efficient at cooling itself

    From http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/conditioning/a/aa052001a.htm

    Fitness Myth 2:
Excessive Sweating While Exercising Means You’re Not Fit
In fact, it's just the opposite. Sweating during exercise is a sign of an efficient cooler. An athlete who has adapted to keep the body core cool during exercise will shunt blood to the skin’s surface more quickly and release heat from the body. At the same time, the sweat glands increase their output and thus cool the body during sweat evaporation. While fit people produce more sweat than sedentary folks, they lose less sodium, because more of it is reabsorbed by the body. The result is a more efficient cooler.

I've noticed the same thing recently with myself. I had a plateau in my weight and I wasn't sweating at all. But I was before, and I am starting to sweat again and I'm losing weight again. I just thought it was me lol

Cool! So that's why I'm sweating more now!

Me too! I've always sweat a little, but losing weight I feel like I put out gallons when I'm doing Cardio. Time to buy some dorky looking sweat bands I guess. ;)

I'm not sure if it has to do with being heavier or just not being as fit. When I first started working out, I was BARELY every sweating and same with my best friend who is 5'9" and 130lb (She's a twig). Now that we work out almost every day, we're both pouring in sweat! I think it's more of your body becoming more efficient at cooling you down than your starting weight.

Great job! I really enjoy sweating too! You're not weird haha

I tend to sweat more when I finish my work-out. I do sweat some during but afterwards I will pour sweat.

I love to sweat while I'm working out...
    My Motto:
    "If I ain't drippin, I ain't droppin". LOL

Some days I sweat more then others and I just let it happen.

The fittest people who work the hardest tend to sweat the most. Think of it this way: the more powerful the muscle contraction the more energy it requires. The conversion of food or stored energy into usable energy is not 100% efficient. Some energy is always lost as heat. The more energy being used, the more excess heat produced, the more sweat!
