Attempting the Carnivore diet, anyone else giving it a shot?

No but it sounds super unhealthy. Why not eat a variety of foods you like at a deficit you can manage and is healthy for you?3
-
It’s really just kind of a test/trial. Max I plan on is 30 days.2

Any diet that puts you in a calorie deficit will work. But a well rounded diet ensures you get most/all of your nutrients and is easier to stick to especially long term.2

You make a great point, and I tend to agree with you. With that being said I am interested to see how the/my body will react to the Carnivore.3

Breakfast was easy. I’m not a big fan of dairy, anyone have ideas for no carb/sugar protein snacks throughout the day?1

Oh good call. I had it for breakfast but completely spaced it as a snack. Thanks.1

Actually it doesn’t have to be Carnivore meat, just meat and fat in general. Coffee and water also allowed.0

Also cheese, but I don’t really like cheese very often.0

No carbs... won't be long till you can't poop then. That won't help with weight loss...3

From the very few people that have tried it before me, their material says that they had no problem with “movements”. However if I do develop an issue I will definitely post it.0

It is very similar in theory to the “keto” diet, however more emphasis is placed on protein.3

Hi FattyCrabby. Im about to do a 30 day challenge. Ive done keto on and off since last summer and dropped from 107kg to 90 kg and have been unable to drop lower. This is probably down to the constant cycle of a few days finding it easy and a few kgs of water/glycogen weight falling off, a few days in ketosis, a few days feeling weak depleted and craving the hell out of carbs then having a cheat meal which turns into a binge because all ive been thinking about for the last few days are what carbs i will be eating when i finally cheat. Then the cycle starts again.
Ive had about 10 days now on carnivore. Been eating fatty meats, a little bit of cheese I have left from my keto and pepsi max ( i know diet drinks are horrendous, but they are my little treat).
What I found so far is my energy levels are phenomenal, my bowel movements have decreased in frequency (due to the smaller volume of food Im eating with fats being more calorie dense than carbs I assume) but surprisingly they have been normal with zero constipation. In addition to my energy levels being up the big benefits vs keto have been that firstly I feel solid and muscular whereas after a week in ketosis I felt soft and flat. Secondly, the carb cravings have been minimal. I dont feel the need for the cheat day.
I lost about 3kg I had put on in the previous month where I had fallen off the diet wagon so am back down to 90kg (still havent broken that plateau). I have a few things planned over the next few days where I will be away and having nights out etc so will be having a few days off. I plan to do a full 30 day challenge starting the 7th June and will reduce my coffee and diet drink intake and have zero dairy.
A lot of people that will say it is unhealthy. But from what I read saturated fats and cholesterol by themselves are not the issue, it is when they are combined with processed carbohydrates that they become problematic. Also you can get absolutely every nutrient from meats if you ensure you throw in some organ meats (the liver being the most nutritionally dense) and oily fish such as salmon. There is a really great interview with Dr Shaun Baker on the Joe Rogan podcast that is worth a listen. Hes a world class indoor rower, absolutely shredded and muscular and he has been carnivore for years.
****As I was writing all this I noticed this post is a few months old now. How did it go?9 -
I just finished another 30 day carnivore challenge (except some coffee, coconut cream and some diet Pepsi) through the Low Carber Carnivore and Low Carber Daily MFP groups. There is often one group challenge per year for people who want to try carnivore. There is usually a handful who keep going because they feel so much better avoiding plant products.
I am actually planning on staying mostly carnivore for a while. It's the only way I find that I can eat intuitively and still lose weight without noticing any constant hunger. I'll get hungry if I haven't eaten for many hours, but that's it. And I just can't overeat meat. I hit a limit of around 600 kcal in one sitting and feel almost nauseated at the idea of taking another bite. I lost between 6-8 lbs this month, by just eating what I wanted in animal products; my guess is that 2lbs was water weight.
I do tend to keep my carnivore status to myself most of the time. There is an old fashioned, unwarranted unhealthy stigma attached to animal products. Sort of like veganism or vegetarianism was viewed 60 years ago. After being indoctrinated in the low fat dogma, people believe meat is less healthy than plant based foods - which just isn't true.
Sure, the way you eat some meats may be less healthy - a diet of hotdogs or pork rinds is not ideal - but neither is a diet of oreos and corn tortillas. Whole foods, whether animal or plants, is generally healthiest, IMO
Shaun Baker is great to listen to. He did a lab follow up with Robb Wolf, I believe, which is worth a listen. There is a good zero carb website too with lots of carnivore success stories.
As an aside, I had a large handful of nuts last night. I kept thinking of them so I went for it. Gas and bloating followed, and is still following- it slowed my digestion right down. Fibre tends to bulk stools and add gas, and is more likely to lead to constipation than meats are.
Back to bacon for breakfast for me. LOL7 -

Actually, it is true - a diet heavy in animal products is directly linked to many types of cancer and heart disease and the World Health Organization has listed red meat as a carcinogen.

No. It hasn't.
The WHO listed processed meats as carcinogenic to humans. It raises your risk of colon cancer by 20%. Since the original risk of colon cancer without processed meats is 5%, that means your risk goes up (20% of 5%) to 6%. Meh. I'll eat bacon still. I do eat mostly whole foods though.
The WHO has not declared red meat a carcinogen. They're suspicious of it, but they have no evidence that it causes a problem at all. They think it is possibly as strongly linked to cancer as shift work and hot drinks.
Plus the term "meat" includes beef, venison, bison, Turkey, chicken, duck, lamb, pork and possibly some seafood depending on who you talk to.6 -

Cathunterfit - you proved the point of nvmomketo: There is an old fashioned, unwarranted unhealthy stigma attached to animal products. Sort of like veganism or vegetarianism was viewed 60 years ago. The issue is eliminating most foods, after 30 days adding them back individually to ensure body tolerance. After doing Whole 30, I found my body reacted badly to peanut oil, bananas, and other foods I never knew.
I just started the carnivore diet to eliminate more foods to determine body tolerance levels and other ailments.1 -
I just started the carnivore diet and today had liver , it’s given my the vitamins I need and I feel good. I’m enjoying my journey1

I’ve been mostly carnivore for 3 years now. I do labs every 6 months or so just to keep track of my health. No sign of deficiencies. It’s a great way to eat. Very simple to track and very health promoting.4

I have done carnivore several times for months at a time. It completely eliminates all inflammation in my joints. My joints feel all loose and grind a little bit but I feel much better with no inflammation. BUT I have no energy on carnivore. Can’t function like that. I have to have some carbs for energy, I guess. So I’m on AIP/Paleo and have more energy and a little more inflammation.
The most amazing thing about carnivore is I could not sunburn. I’ve always been pale and a little freckled but when I was on paleo I just dark tanned with no burn. Weirdest thing ever. They say the salicylates in plants make us burn. I have no clue…1
